Experienced archivist to work with collections (paper and electronic).
Responsible for the appraisal and processing of archival collections.
Proficiency in full archival processing as well as More Product, Less Process.
Experience writing finding guides. Knowledge of EAD, DACs and other metadata
standards. Familiarity with digital formats and issues related to born-digital
content. May train, supervise or review archival work by other staff. Provide
reference service to patrons. Curate selected exhibits. Serve on digital
collections team. Strong organizational skills. Dedicated commitment to public
service. Ability to work creatively, collegially and effectively as part of a
team and independently. Interpret library policy, procedures and regulations;
help develop special collections policies, procedures and regulations.
Demonstrated proficiency with library / archival technology applications.
Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft
Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other software. Maintain
professional development through participation at local, state or national
level. Perform related duties as required.

  
LOCATION: Harold Washington Library Center 400 S. State Str
eet

DAYS OFF: Two days off per week

SHIFT: Will be required to work some Evenings and Saturdays & Sundays

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Mon-Thurs 8-6, Fri & Sat 8-5, Sun: Closed

  
Qualifications

  
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in
Archival Studies, OR a Master's degree from an accredited American Library
Association (ALA) Library Science program with nine credit hours in archival
science or archival administration studies, OR a Master's degree in History or
a directly related field with nine credit hours in archival science or
archival administration studies. One year of work experience related to the
responsibilities of the position is also required.

VETERANS PREFERENCE NOTE: The City of Chicago offers
Veterans Preference to both current, active military personnel AND military
personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have
received an honorable or general discharge. Eligible
candidates must have at least six months of active duty
documented. In order to receive the veterans preference,
candidates need to indicate whether or not they are a veteran by answering
"yes" or "no" to the question on the online application that asks, "Are you
currently serving on active duty for at least six months in the Armed Forces
of the United States OR have you served in the Armed Forces of the United
States on active duty for at least six months and received an honorable or
general discharge?" In addition, you must attach
documentation to verify your military service. For
veterans, you must attach a copy of your DD214 to your online application
which includes character of service status OR a letter from the United States
Veterans Administration on official stationary stating dates of service and
character of service. For active military personnel, you
must attach a letter from your Commanding Officer on official stationary
verifying your active duty, length of service, and character of service in the
Armed Forces of the United States AND a copy of your military ID to your
online application. Failure to answer the question and
attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for
the Veterans Preference.

  
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview.
The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to
fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be
selected. Selected bidders will be hired in seniority
order.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

a) Knowledge of archival processing in an academic or public library and/or
museum setting

(b) Exp working in the field of Special Collections

(c) Knowledge of EAD, DACS and/or other metadata standards

  
Evaluation: Your initial evaluation will be based on
information provided on the application form and documents submitted with the
application. Applications must be submitted by the
individual applicant. No second party applicants will be

Residency Requirement: An employee must
be an actual resident of the City of Chicago. Proof of
residency will be required at the time of employment.
