Under moderate supervision, with a high degree of independent judgment,
implements and maintains systems and networks in support of Libraries'
computer information systems, including the ILS and web services. Individual
will be responsible for the development, design, installation, maintenance and
coordination of computer-based systems within the libraries. Participates in
technology planning which supports the mission and services of the Pratt

Support desktops, laptops, and other devices in a multi-platform OS
environment (Mac & Windows).
Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and network issues, providing Level
1 & 2 helpdesk support.
Responsible for orienting staff on the use of computing and telecommunications
equipment; assists and instructs in the use of other hardware and software as
Assist in the management of the Libraries' networked resources, staff and
public workstations using Windows server 2008 standard networking protocols,
Windows 7, and MAC OSX.
Installing, integrating, and testing all new equipment and peripherals.
Assists with the design, maintenance, and operation of specialized library
systems (including, but not limited to, the proxy server and other library
hosted web services).
Reboots, troubleshoots both hardware and software problems, maintaining logs
of system programs and problems, and performs routine backups.
Maintains the Libraries' Integrated Library Systems (ILS):
Works with appropriate library personnel to identify, prioritize, and
implement needed ILS modifications and improvements.
Communicates with designated vendors to ensure reliability and performance of
Routinely loads and exports records of all types into and out of the ILS.
Answer queries and trouble-shoot technical problems related to the ILS.
Participate in the Libraries' Technology Team:
Works with the Head of Technical Services to prepare the libraries' short- and
long-range technology plans.
Responsible for evaluating and review of all computer hardware & software
purchases, ordering when appropriate.
Is an active participant on the Libraries' Technology Team.
Maintains and updates library-wide replacement plan for hardware and software.
Maintain inventory of computer hardware and software.
Trains staff in basic support responsibilities to assist with Level 1 support
Participate in departmental meetings and in achieving library-wide goals and
priorities related to technology planning and implementation.
Communicates with the designated vendors to identify needs and expectations
for growth and expansion of services.
Report, maintain and/or assists in maintenance of documentation.
Schedules and runs batch processes.
Participates in Institute-wide related projects and committees.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
Education: A Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited
program, or equivalent. An additional degree, substantial coursework, or other
certification in computer science is preferred.
Experience: Extensive computer and network experience is required; at least
two years library experience required; experience in supporting an integrated
library system, preferably the Innovative Interfaces Inc. Millennium system;
demonstrated experience in a networked facility and ability to maintain
Windows Server 2008, networking clients running Windows 7 and Mac OSX, network
certification is preferred; demonstrated experience in providing responsive
user support in the area of computer hardware and software utilization is
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills; excellent
oral and written communication skills; adaptability, creativity, and an
aptitude to learn new technological tools and techniques.
Ability to provide effective user support.
Working knowledge of an ILS (Innovative Interfaces Millennium preferred but
