The Manager, Digital Scholarly Communication is responsible for the ANU
Digital Collections facility which provides a range of services to assist
academic staff and postgraduate researchers to manage the dissemination of
their research output (including publications, theses and conference papers)
particularly through deposit in the open access repository. The position also
provides support and advice to researchers during the publishing process and
supports research output management needs of the University in terms of
delivery of access of these resources to the public.

  
  
The successful candidate will possess expertise in the management of scholarly
information, sound understanding of information and metadata management and
practices and demonstrated ability to identify requirements and produce
business documents including reports.

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

  
The Manager of Digital Collections is responsible for day to day management of
the digital collections repositories and leadership of projects relating to
the ANU repository which includes digital collections of ANU research output
and digitised material from university collections

The position sits within the scholarly communication area. Scholarly
communication is an important part of research and the ANU Library supports
the creation, evaluation, dissemination and preservation of research and
scholarly writings. The Library provides expert advice in advanced information
research techniques, staying up-to-date with scholarly output, trends in
scholarly publishing, citation analysis and management and research data
management. These roles are spread across the Library precincts and E Press as
well as in Digital Collections.

  
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:

  
Management of ANU open access repositories. Provision of advice on issues in
relation to developments in repositories.

  
Position Dimension & Relationships:

  
The position is responsible for the ANU Digital Collections facility which
provides a range of services to assist academic staff and postgraduate
researchers to manage the dissemination of their research output (including
publications, theses and conference papers) particularly through deposit in
the open access repository. The position also provides support and advice to
researchers during the publishing process and supports research output
management needs of the University in terms of delivery of access of these
resources to the public.

  
The position reports to the University Librarian and is responsible for
supervising several part-time staff, depending on availability of support
resources.

  
Role Statement:

  
Under broad direction of the University Librarian,

  
1. Increasing access to research outputs from staff and postgraduate students
at ANU through management and promotion of the open access repositories,
including provision of usage reports and recommendations for enhancements and
developments.

  
2. Contribute to projects that enhance the discovery and management of
scholarly outputs, particularly through managing of the digital collections
service.

  
3. Work with relevant areas in the university including the Research Office,
Library, Legal Office and ITS to provide information to those wishing to on
submit work to the repository and contribute to the Library's input on issues
including intellectual property.

  
4. Develop statements on functional improvements required for the repository,
taking into account the needs of relevant stakeholders, including
interoperability with other university systems.

  
5. Provide advice to the University Librarian on repository issues.

  
6. Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, and in particular those
relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity.

  
Selection Criteria:

  
1. Demonstrated expertise and experience in the management of scholarly
information, especially in an academic environment in the area of scholarly
communication, or combination of qualification and relevant experience and
knowledge. 2. Sound understanding of information and metadata management
principles and practices. Knowledge/awareness of e-Research and repository
tools and their role in supporting research. 3. Demonstrated communication
skills to ensure a clear and comprehensive shared understanding of goals. 4.
Demonstrated ability to identify requirements and produce business documents,
including reports. 5. Demonstrated ability to interact with researchers and
teaching and learning staff to improve access to their research output. 6. A
demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and a commitment to
the application of EO policies in a university context.
