The Raynor Memorial Libraries at Marquette University seeks a creative,
collaborative, enthusiastic professional for the position of Electronic
Records Manager. Reporting to the Head of Special Collections and University
Archives, under the direction of the University Archivist, the Electronic
Records Manager will focus on the management, acquisition, appraisal,
description, disposition, and preservation of born-digital institutional
records with historical, evidential, or administrative value to the
university.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinates the transfer and accession of electronic records; converts,
validates, describes, preserves and makes accessible through appropriate
digital asset management tools.
• Assists in the creation of digital collections, using appropriate metadata
standards, and creation of associated content in conjunction with the
University Archivist.
• Advises university staff and faculty in the proper procedures for
transferring electronic records.
• In consultation with archivists, assists in identifying appropriate
workflows for electronic records received as a part of manuscript collections.
• Participates in reading room and reference service
• Supervises and trains student assistants
• Contributes to the mission of the Raynor Memorial Libraries, by
participating in meetings, planning, program review, developing and evaluating
policies and procedures, strategic planning, and the development of special
projects and functions as appropriate.
• Maintains an awareness of current trends in electronic records management by
participating in professional activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• ALA accredited master's degree in library or information science or advanced
degree in archives administration, records management or other related field.
• Two years of experience in an archives environment; or special collections
coursework and experience resulting in knowledge of principles and practices
governing the management and preservation of digital materials.
• Comprehensive knowledge of electronic records management principles and
practices, and digital preservation theory and practice.
• Understanding of principles of database management, enterprise architecture,
and systems analysis.
• Demonstrated project management experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively, effectively and collegially with a diverse
population of faculty, students and staff.
• Knowledge of metadata standards, reformatting guidelines, grant writing, and
issues pertaining to institutional repositories.
• Superior interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
• Evidence of commitment to the archival and records management profession by
memberships and participation in professional associations.
• Record of ongoing professional development and contribution.
• Ability to tolerate dust and inactive mold spores.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Certified Archivist
• Experience with Archivists' Toolkit or other archival management systems
desired
• Prior academic library or higher education work experience.
• Demonstrated experience applying DACS, EAD and XML, and familiarity with
Dublin Core, AACR2, LCSH, and MARC
• Working knowledge of current archival descriptive standards, intellectual
property rights, and issues related to born-digital content and digital
conversion of archival materials.
