Long Island University's Post Library is seeking a well-qualified and
experienced individual to work in its Digital Initiatives & Art Image Library
who can assist staff in all aspects of maintaining and promoting the
department's collections. A primary responsibility of this
position will be to assist students and faculty using the collection to
conduct archival research, as well as to provide reference and research
services to library patrons.
Additionally, this individual will assist in the development and
implementation of both digital and archival projects, which may involve
working collaboratively with other institutions. Other
responsibilities as noted below, as well those assigned by department
head.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Provide support to students and faculty conducting visual arts and archival research.
* Assist in the development and implementation of both digital and archival projects. Specific duties may include archival cleaning and preservation of fragile archival materials; creating an inventory list of selected items; creation of metadata; assessment and selection of items for digitization; editing text for both analog and digital archival exhibits; and preparing outsourced materials for shipping and delivery.
* Processing of archival collections and ability to create finding aids according to professional archival standards.
* Assist in the planning, design and execution of both in-house and online exhibitions.
* Enter data and maintain a database of Library's extension collection of art sales catalogs.
* Designing and updating the departmental LibGuides.
* Attend professional workshops and conferences as needed.
* Other duties as assigned by department head.

B.A. degree required; MLIS and/or Advanced Certificate in Archives and Records
Management preferred and prior experience working in a museum, archives or
image collection useful. Applicants
should have demonstrated experience with the following software programs--
Archon, Archivists' Toolkit, Omeka, Millennium ILS, Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop,
as well as MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. Applicants must possess a
demonstrated proficiency with the following metadata standards--Dublin Core,
Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Encoded Archival Description
(EAD), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), HyperText Markup Language
(HTML/XHTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and should have working
knowledge and experience using various social media outlets such as Twitter,
Facebook, Flickr and Wordpress. Excellent verbal and
written communication skills and must be able to provide effective and
courteous customer service on an on-going basis.
