Professional experience in Technical Services, with an emphasis on
cataloging/metadata services; working knowledge of current standards such as
AACR2, LCSH, MARC formats and forthcoming changes with RDA. Experience in
reference services and library instruction. Experience in either serials
management or acquisitions. Established record of scholarly contribution and
professional participation; Proficiency in Spanish. Experience in working with
culturally diverse groups.
Required: MLS from ALA accredited school.
Coordinates overall operations of Technical Services (Acquisitions, Serials,
and Cataloging). Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates Technical Services
personnel. Maintains and upgrades technical services system modules and OCLC
system interface so that bibliographic and item records are complete, accurate
and consistently up-to-date. Performs timely original cataloging with an
emphasis on web-based resources and on materials produced in Spanish or other
indigenous languages of the American Southwest. Oversees and maintains quality
control of copy cataloging. Establishes procedures for processing all
acquisitions including books, serials, Government Documents, multimedia
formats, state-adopted textbooks, curriculum materials, maps, theses, special
collections, archives, and other additions/transfers to library collections.
Manages procurement of electronic resources (books, serials, open source
titles and other item types) and related subscription services such as
discovery tools. Works with vendors in setting up trials and in obtaining
pricing licensing/pricing information for review by library management team.
Keeps current with new trends in technical and metadata service. Collaborates
with Public Services team to ensure that the quality of Technical Services
operations meet the bibliographic and access needs of culturally diverse
patrons and library stakeholders. Works with discovery tools for enhanced
access to local, state and national collections. Manages and troubleshoots
access to electronic resources and tools in collaboration with IT personnel
and vendors. Communicates access issues and solutions to library personnel on
a timely basis. Reviews and tracks expenditures in Technical Services fund
accounts. Coordinates preparation of annual reports pertaining to Technical
Services operations and to collection inventory and its value; tracks and
reports usage of electronic resources. May occasionally be asked to be
responsible for daily library operations in the absence of the University
Librarian. Participates in collection development. Willingness to assist in
meeting obligations pertaining to Miller Library's designation as a Federal
and New Mexico Depository Library and as a New Mexico Regional Review Center
for current adopted textbooks and supplementary instructional materials.
Actively participates in decision-making and policy development as a member of
the library management team. Provides research assistance to patrons through
regular participation in the daytime, evening and weekend reference desk

skills to work in a team environment with a strong users-centered orientation.
Ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing and growing university
environment. Demonstrated potential to meet the requirements outlined in the
Faculty Handbook regarding teaching, faculty governance, university and
community service, and contributions to the profession. Ability to work a
flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
