Position/Posting Description

The Auraria Library, serving the University of Colorado Denver, Downtown
Denver Campus; Metropolitan State University of Denver; and the Community
College of Denver seeks a dynamic, energetic and innovative Digital Media
Specialist. Reporting to the Digital Initiatives Librarian, this position will
collaborate with a wide range of library units and campus students, staff and
faculty in order to envision, plan, implement, and maintain user-oriented
digital technologies--including upgrades--and to support their adoption and
usage in an academic library environment.

  
Examples of Work Performed

• Works with Digital Initiatives Librarian, Communications and Marketing
Director, and Web Development Team to enhance usability, innovation, and reach
of digital collections and other educational objects, including books,
journals, and videos.

• Coordinates with liaison librarians the acquisition and management of pre-
packaged content, and, if needed, identification of additional material, for
use with interactive Digital Discovery Wall and instructing and collaborating
with faculty, staff, students, and liaison librarians in Wall's use

• Provides expert consultation in the use of professional design and
multimedia production software deployed in public computing areas (Adobe
Creative Suite; Final Cut Pro, etc.)

• Provides expert support in proper use and handling of multimedia production
equipment

• Investigates and recommends adoption and implementation of new library user-
oriented technologies, software, and tools--especially in high impact library
learning spaces

• Collaboratively develops web-based digital projects and exhibits in the
humanities and sciences

• Interfaces with collection development and instruction librarians when
appropriate to determine direction of user-oriented projects and technologies.

• Contributes to creation, programming, curriculum integration, and
maintenance of Auraria Library Maker Spaces

• Actively participate and contribute ideas and suggestions to accomplish
department and organization goals.

• Provide formal and informal technology training to library staff and student
workers.

• Holds face-to-face meetings with campus faculty, offering advice on the use
of media production technology, digital media, and related technologies,
concepts, and practices.

• Make recommendation for hardware and software purchases.

  
Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

• Bachelor's degree (digital media, educational technology, or related field
preferred)

• 2 years of experience in digital media, educational technology or related
field.

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator,
and InDesign

• Proficiency in Final Cut Pro and other video editing software and
transcoding tools

• Proficiency in Apple and Windows-based computer systems

• Experience using scanners, image capture devices, and a variety of
multimedia production equipment in the creation of digital exhibits or other
projects

• Experience with and knowledge of Drupal or similar web content management
systems

  
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of technology trends and the ability to investigate, recommend,
and implement new technologies

• Ability to act independently and creatively with a high degree of initiative
in the delivery of new and innovative technologies

• Confident in experimentation in the implementation of new technologies and
educational philosophies

• Ability to instruct a wide array of individuals, including faculty and
students, in the use of a variety of creative technologies and software.

• Ability to learn new skills

• Ability to complete work within specified deadlines

• Analytical and problem solving skills

• Effective presentation and listening skills

• Excellent communication and customer service skills

• Graduate degree in digital media, educational technology or related field

  
Desired Qualifications:

• Experience deploying and operating media production equipment, including
video cameras, digital single lens reflex (dSLR) cameras, and playback devices
(VCRs, cassette decks, etc.)

• Experience deploying and calibrating digital scanning equipment for the
creation of high-quality curated digital installations and web-based exhibits

• Experience creating online exhibits via Omeka, Drupal, or a similar
content/asset management system

• Experience in delivering library technology instruction to diverse
stakeholders, employing both online and face-to-face models

• Experience in academic libraries or higher education

• Experience using a variety of social media tools to enhance digital assets

  
  
Position Classification and Salary:

This position is an Exempt Professional/non-faculty, at-will position. Minimum
salary is $45,000/yr and is commensurate with skills and experience. The
University of Colorado offers a full benefits package. Information on
