The Library at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville seeks
applicants for Resource Description Librarian. S/He works under the direction
of the Head of Discovery Enhancement to produce MARC and non-MARC metadata for
library resources in all formats, and resolves descriptive data issues in
library discovery systems. This position performs database maintenance
activities, documents procedures and processes, and assists with training
staff in descriptive metadata production. S/He ensures best practices for
access to library materials through multiple discovery venues. This position
requires knowledge of multiple metadata standards and schema, and an awareness
of anticipated transitions to future data platforms. For complete description

Required: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree or equivalent, plus
at least 2 years of post-degree experience creating and editing MARC metadata
using a library management system. Demonstrated application of LC
Classification, LCSH, and AACR2; knowledge of RDA; and proficiency with OCLC
Connexion. Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Preferred: Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve issues involving
display and indexing in library systems; experience performing authority
control using controlled vocabularies or taxonomies; involvement in innovative
projects that embrace change and implement new concepts such as linked data,
RDF, and the Semantic Web; demonstrated interaction between traditional MARC-
based systems and metadata for a digital library environment; experience using
global descriptive data editing tools such as MarcEdit; ability to multitask,
prioritize, and work both independently and as part of a team; experience
training staff; and evidence of effective communication and interpersonal
skills.
