The Head Digital Archivist oversees all aspects of 'Ulu'ulu: The Henry
Ku'ualoha Giugni Moving Image Archive of Hawai'i. Duties include:

  * Supervises the daily operations of the archive;
  * Develops the archive's policies and procedures to guide all aspects of the archive's operations including collection management, cataloging, preservation, and access;
  * Supervises the acquisitions of historically important media materials to become part of the permanent collections, including researching and identifying collections in need, and maintaining donor relations;
  * Develops policies for the arrangement and description of the permanent collections;
  * Oversees cataloging efforts;
  * Oversees digitizing efforts including work with specialized preservation labs and vendors;
  * Oversees the acquisition, installation, and support of hardware and software essential to the archive's operations;
  * Develops a comprehensive digital preservation & access strategy based on best practices & national/professional standards & which includes long-term storage requirements, copyrights, metadata collection and development of a web-based virtual environment;
  * Oversees the archive's internship and volunteer programs;
  * Provides specialized information services, including reference and research consultation, and professional presentations, to students, faculty and members of the community;
  * Works with architects, contractors, and University administration to assist with the development and design of the archive's physical location;
  * Assists in budget management including reporting, purchasing, fundraising efforts, and grant proposals;
  * Assists in writing general archive reports and evaluations;
  * Assists in the hiring of professional staff to manage the archive's activities;
  * Assists the Director of ACM System in meeting financial management, personnel and program responsibilities by serving as a liaison between the office, other support offices, and different central offices as assigned;
  * Serves in the management of daily operations to include but not limited to reviewing and processing of fiscal and personnel transactions as assigned;
  * Plans, directs, assigns and evaluates work assignments of fiscal and personnel support staff as assigned;
  * Acts on behalf of the Director of ACM System on fiscal, personnel and program matters as assigned or in their absence;
  * Assists Director of ACM System in overseeing and assessing all phases of awards and closings which include monthly budget tracking, historical expenditure data, budget reconciliations and balances for all grants;
  * Works with Director of ACM System to execute grant closeout, as necessary, by compiling required documentation of work, preparing the administrative and fiscal requirements for reporting;
  * Develops and oversees management of property and project resource inventory;
  * Works directly with Director of ACM System and project staff to achieve intended goals of ACM System and other related innovative programs.
  * Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

  * Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Library Science, Creative Media, Art History, Information and Computer Sciences and 5 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for managing a rich audiovisual archive and digital preservation program at a college, university or research organization; or equivalent education/training or experience.
  * Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of moving image archiving and digital preservation as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  * Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with media archive management.
  * Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  * Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  * Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  * Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  * Preferred: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, Archival Studies, Moving Image Archiving and Preservation, Creative Media, Art History, Information and Computer Sciences, or related field.
  * Knowledge of various film formats (e.g. 8mm, Super8, 16mm, 35mm), and videotape formats in a wide variety of obsolete playback systems (e.g. 2" Quad, 1", 3/4" Umatic, Betacam SP).
  * Knowledge of archival processes and standards in appraisal, arrangement, description, preservation and metadata.
  * Knowledge of the film and video production process and materials associated with a production.
  * Experience with MAVIS integrated media asset management software.
  * Experience with SAMMA Solo and Final Cut Pro videotape digitizing systems.
  * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  * Evidence of strong critical thinking skills.
  * Experience in a collaborative and collegial setting.
  * Productive attitude and enthusiasm for an innovative and changing environment.
  * Experience in providing quality reference service.
  * For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  * Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications

  * Extensive experience drafting grants applications and proposals and grants management.
  * Demonstrated experience with presentations at regional and national professional conferences and associations (e.g. Association of Moving Image Archivists, Society of American Archivists, Association of Hawaii Archivists).
  * Experience working with the design or construction of a new archive.
  * Experience with Climate Notebook environmental analysis software.
  * Knowledge of Hawaiian media history, culture, and language.
  * Ability to lift 20-30 pound boxes.
