Required Qualifications:

  * Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or equivalent.
  * Work-related experience in the imaging of two-and/or three dimensional objects.
  * Experience using and supporting numerous types of digital imaging equipment including flatbed scanners and digital cameras.
  * Supervisory and training experience.
  * Demonstrated project management skills.
  * Experience performing color correction and image manipulation using standard digital imaging software such as Photoshop.
Desired Qualifications:

  * Background in film photography, digital photography, and/or graphic design.
  * Experience in a production oriented environment.
  * Knowledge of a wide range of digital library standards, particularly best practices for digitization.
  * Familiarity with preservation assessment criteria and treatment options.
  * Experience using objective and subjective quality control assessments.
  * Familiarity with a variety of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, MIX and VRA 4.0.
  * Ability to work independently and collaboratively and to work closely with colleagues from all Library departments and with students, faculty, and staff.
  * Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  * Experience handling archives/special collections/institutional records.
Principal duties:

  
General Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the position include coordinating digital reformatting
operations that preserve and improve access to library and archival
collections in all formats while conforming to library standards and best
practices. Work with project team members to develop policies and procedures
to guide the development of digital collections, particularly in terms of
issues relating to digital preservation, quality control and production
workflow. Investigate and evaluate new approaches for creating, implementing
and maintaining digital and analog content. Actively contribute to the
development and implementation of digital projects, with an emphasis on
projects developed in conjunction with the Preservation Department. Act as a
reformatting resource for permanent and student staff from libraries, museums
and other public or private institutions as required. Actively supervise
student production staff working in support of the UWDCC.

  
50% Digital Reformatting Services:

  * Develop and oversee the reformatting of materials for digital library projects. Work with colleagues, project teams, campus units and other partners to implement projects according to library guidelines.
  * Ensure the quality of work of all production phases associated with this area of responsibility.
  * Train library staff working on UWDC projects to use the software and hardware associated with the reformatting and creation of materials.
  * Investigate and recommend digitization hardware and software; monitor and maintain specialized hardware and software to capture manipulate and save images.
  * Evaluate requirements of digitization projects and make recommendations for appropriate methods of capture.
  * Actively participate in the development and implementation of digital preservation strategies for the Library.
  * Write documentation as appropriate.
  * Prepare reports related to assigned projects as appropriate.
30% Project Management and Development and Outreach Activities:

  * Develop project assessments, cost and time estimates, project briefs, and Memorandums of Understandings for the Library's digital collections
  * Participate in Project Assessment and Development (PAD) Group meetings.
  * Serve as a resource to librarians, faculty and the public interested in the creation and use of digital content.
  * Present UWDCC resources, practices and services at campus, statewide, and national events.
15% Administration:

  * Participate in the management of UWDCC, helping to determine unit priorities, policies, procedures and workflows.
  * Supervise graduate and undergraduate students working in support of UWDCC projects.
  * Hire and supervise support staff as required for unit.
5% Professional Development:

  * Participate in library and campus committees and outreach activities to further the mission of UWDCC.
  * Keep current with developments in librarianship, particularly related to digital collections, preservation, reformatting and library technology.
Additional Information:

The Digital Services Librarian provides leadership for new and emerging issues
in reformatting of analog and digital materials intended for use in the
library's collections. The individual in this position will take an active
role in the design, development and implementation of initiatives relating to
the development of digital library collections.
