The Assistant Dean of University Libraries for Learning and Outreach Services
assists the Dean and works closely with administrative and Library faculty
colleagues to carry out the mission of the Libraries and to provide
leadership, direction and oversight for the planning and operations of the
Libraries' faculty, staff, services and collections at Seton Hall. The
Assistant Dean of University Libraries for Learning and Outreach Services will
help develop programmatic and organizational initiatives to enhance the
academic program and other services provided to students, faculty, staff,
alumni, and other constituencies. She/he will contribute her/his individual
skills and expertise as needed in order to achieve the goals and objectives
set by the organization. Motivates, listens, communicates and generally
oversees the work of assigned Library functions, with a proven ability to
analyze, follow through, help make workflows and services more efficient,
particularly in the use of new tools and technologies.
Specifically, the Assistant Dean of University Libraries for Learning and
Outreach Services will provide leadership and direction for the Public
Services departments and units including reference, instruction, access
services -- which includes ILL, circulation, and stacks services, and the
Libraries' liaison services. The Assistant Dean of University Libraries for
Learning and Outreach Services provides administrative oversight of personnel,
budgets, and activities; partners with library units and administrative
colleagues on communications and promotional strategies and assists with the
planning and design of the Libraries' spaces to enhance learning; collaborates
and provides leadership in implementing appropriate Web-enabled tools and
technologies in advancing the University's and the Libraries' goals; insures
appropriate internal and external communication; serves as the primary
advocate to ensure that the Library gives excellent service and access to
materials as it responds to current and future needs of the user community;
works in close collaboration with administrative colleagues (especially on
technology initiatives), Library faculty and staff . Makes recommendations to
the Dean; also serves as librarian liaison providing library instruction,
reference services, research support, and collection development services for
selected program areas; other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Library Science--additional subject masters desired. 5-8
years of experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Doctorate: Open, related to SHU areas of curriculum preferred.
