Emerging Technologies Librarian (Rappahannock Community College, Virginia)

Rappahannock Community College in Virginia is a two-year public institution of
higher education with campuses in Warsaw and Glenns, and satellite teaching
locations throughout the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula region.
Rappahannock Community College serves the citizens of twelve counties and two
towns, comprising one of the largest geographic areas of any school in
Virginia's community college system. The college's two libraries are located
on the Glenns and Warsaw campuses, with the Warsaw campus library also serving

County, Virginia. The Emerging Technologies Librarian, under the supervision
of the Library Coordinator, has primary responsibility for the integration of
innovative technologies into the Library. This entails maintaining and
enhancing content of the library website, coordinating the library's presence
in social media, expanding the library's presence in Blackboard, and the
creation of instructional and promotional materials for use online and in
person, in the library and in the community. The person in this position
actively participates in online and face-to-face reference and instruction and
participates in collection development. Other duties include the integration
of library services into classes; the creation of online modules (such as
tutorials, presentations and other documents) to explain and promote library
services; evaluation of apps and widgets to determine applicability for use in
the library; developing and maintaining subject guides; and representing the
library on some college committees, in regional associations and at
professional conferences.. The person in this position is expected to keep
abreast of information and trends in library and related technology fields and
be innovative in recommending new ideas to connect students with information.
Person must be comfortable with change and with working in a rapidly changing
technological environment. The College Librarian will provide occasional
backup support in the absence of the Library Coordinator in supervising all
library personnel operations. This position serves all college sites and will
maintain a schedule at both campuses. The Emerging Technologies Librarian also
serves the citizens of Richmond County in the library's dual capacity as both
a college and public library. This position will also supervise student
assistants. Required qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA accredited
school of library/information science. Strong verbal and written communication
skills. Demonstrated experience using an LMS and presentation software. Strong
evidence of customer service focus/orientation. Willingness
to participate in the life of the College through activities, committee work
and special assignments. Preferred qualifications: Previous experience working
in a reference and/or digital services position in a library. Instructional
experience in an academic library or other teaching experience. Experience in
maintaining webpage content. Familiarity with digital initiatives in a library
environment. High level of digital literacy/fluency, including ability to
adapt to new technologies and learn new tools quickly. Salary is commensurate
with education and experience; hiring minimum is $52,314; excellent benefits
package. Satisfactory reference and criminal background checks are a condition
of employment. A completed Commonwealth of Virginia online employment
application, cover letter and resume describing qualifications and unofficial
transcripts are required. Applications will only be
accepted online through the Recruitment Management System at
[http://jobs.virginia.gov](http://jobs.virginia.gov) and must be received by
5:00pm on November 4, 2013. Resumes will not substitute for a completed state
application. Rappahannock Community College does not discriminate on the basis
of race, color, age, national origin, sex, or disability in recruiting and
employment. Inquiries related to college's nondiscrimination policies should
be directed to the Human Resources Manager, 12745 College Drive, Glenns,
Virginia 23149.
