The University Libraries at Appalachian State University seeks an innovative,
self-directed Web Librarian to provide leadership in the implementation and
maintenance of the Library's web presence. This is an excellent opportunity to
work in a collaborative, energetic, and enthusiastic environment. The ideal
candidate will be a catalyst for identifying and advancing the use of emerging
technologies.

  
Appalachian State University is located in the beautiful mountains of western

Library personnel work in a collegial team-based environment, are members of
the University faculty, participate in the Library's instruction program, and
engage in active programs of scholarship and professional service. The Library
offers strong support for professional development activities, including
publishing, presenting, and attending conferences and workshops.

**Responsibilities**  
  
The Web Librarian serves as the point of contact for website development and
support. As a member of the Technology Services Team, the successful candidate
will:

  
Oversee website issues, including accessibility, website policy and technical
standards.

Provide advice, training, and support for library personnel involved in web
content creation.

Improve the user experience to streamline access to services and resources;

Develop the library's mobile web presence.

Coordinate ongoing assessment of the website, including usability studies.

Supervise one or more staff or students.

  
**Qualifications**  
  
Required

  
ALA-accredited master's degree.

Experience producing and customizing a quality, ADA-compliant website within a
Content Management System.

Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  
Preferred

  
Drupal site-building experience.

Aptitude for graphic design and layout.

Knowledge of effective approaches for the assessment of the Library's web
presence.

Programming experience with PHP, JavaScript, XML, and/or XSLT.

Demonstrated ability to support mobile versions of library resources.

Ability to use Linux command line and familiarity with web server environment.

Second advanced degree.

Life experiences similar to those of underrepresented populations at
Appalachian.

This is a twelve-month, tenure track position and may be filled at the
Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor rank. Rank as an
Assistant or Associate Professor and continued employment beyond the
Instructor term requires an advanced degree in addition to the ALA-accredited
master's degree. Salary and rank are determined on the basis of qualifications

Appalachian State University is a constituent institution of the seventeen-
campus University of North Carolina System. Located in Boone, North Carolina,
the University has over 17,000 students, primarily in bachelor's and master's

place ranking on the Washington Monthly's "Best Bang for the Buck" rankings
2013, which includes variables such as low net cost, better than expected
graduation rate, and low default rate for graduates.
