The Associate University Librarian, Digital Scholarship & Strategy is part of
the senior management team of UVic Libraries and will provide visionary
leadership in emerging areas of digital scholarship. He/she
will foster broad and deep collaborations between librarians, researchers,
faculty and community members. The AUL will help to further integrate the
Libraries within the teaching, learning and research activities of the
university. The AUL will build upon existing partnerships between the
Libraries and research programs and units such as Implementing New Knowledge
Environments (http://inke.uvic.ca/), Humanities Computing and Media Centre
(http://hcmc.uvic.ca/), Internet Shakespeare Editions
(http://internetshakespeare.uvic.ca) Community Mapping Collaboratory
(http://mapping.uvic.ca/), University Systems, Office of the Vice-President
Research and many others, and take a leadership role in building new
partnerships across diverse interdisciplinary audiences with university and
external communities. The AUL will engage in and provide leadership for
national and international initiatives related to new and emerging digital
research infrastructures.

  
Setting

  
The University of Victoria, located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia is a
highly ranked teaching and research institution of approximately 18,000
students and 880 regular faculty members with graduate programmes in a wide
range of disciplines. UVic is widely recognized for its interdisciplinary
research initiatives, its co-op education, its many Canada Research Chairs and
its support for innovative teaching and research-intensive

Qualifications

  
A Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA accredited
program, or equivalent degree is required; as well as an additional masters
degree and/or PhD in an academic field related to the knowledge or skills
required for the position. Other requirements include: extensive experience
(minimum six years) in developing and managing library digital collections or
digital scholarly initiatives; demonstrated technical skills in areas related
to digital libraries and digital scholarship; thorough knowledge of digital
records and information preservation issues; in-depth knowledge of the current
trends in digital scholarship and a vision of emerging trends; extensive
project management experience; instructional experience; and the ability to
work both independently and provide strong team leadership. The successful
candidate possesses a refined ability to communicate effectively and tactfully
with wide variety of stakeholders, has a substantive record of working
collaboratively on digital collections or digital scholarship initiatives, and
has gained progressive supervisory experience over a minimum of five years.
Familiarity with a unionized environment is an asset. The position requires
superior verbal, written, analytical and organizational skills. For the full
