Lesbian Herstory Archives
New York City
The Lesbian Herstory Archives is looking for library and/or archives student
interns with a demonstrated interest in Lesbian Studies or activism and a
general knowledge of LGBT History. This program is unpaid.
Interns will have the opportunity for practical application of archives and
library skills in a casual, friendly, dedicated environment
Course credit and letters of recommendation will be provided upon request.
Interns will be supervised by professional librarians and other archives staff
Requirements
* Available for a minimum of 2 full days per week.
* Completion of core graduate-level Library or Archives courses
* Familiarity with cataloging and archival processing
* Skilled in the use of MS Office, Google Docs, CMS and regular office equipment
COLLECTION AREAS
Periodicals & Books Processing and Cataloging
Intern will process incoming newspapers, newsletters, journals and magazines,
update cataloging records and prepare collections for digitization where
necessary.
Reference & Administration
Interns will process collections and create electronic finding aids, staff the
reference desk and provide researcher assistance.
Video & Audio Cataloging/Preservation
Interns will process and catalog videos (including relabeling and rehousing
collections) and with the ongoing digitization of spoken word audio tapes.
OPAC Development Working Group
Interns will perform database cleanup in a variety of collections and
contribute to the design, testing and launch of the LHA's new OPAC.

NOTE: LHA cannot provide housing for interns. LHA will provide confirmation of
internship acceptance for candidates who may need this documentation to
accompany a grant or fellowship application.
