Radford University seeks an experienced, visionary, and user-centered
librarian to join a team of library faculty committed to providing superior
technology to our academic community.
As part of the Library Technology Department, the Systems Librarian will:
Provide expertise in application administration related to library systems,
technologies, and software that increase and enhance access to academic
resources at McConnell Library;
Administer, evaluate, coordinate, and trouble-shoot library specific
technologies. The individual resolves problems, including but not limited to
the following applications: Innovative Interfaces Sierra ILS; ILLiad; Encore,
EZproxy;
Serve as ILLiad Administrator: Load and configure new releases, patches,
security hotfixes; manage user accounts/permissions and remote access; edit
custom ASP scripts and web pages; serve as primary technical contact and
liaison with Atlas Systems; arrange for new product and maintenance orders.
Regularly coordinate all ILLiad initiatives with the Interlibrary Loan staff
in Access Services;
Serve as EZproxy Application Administrator: Patch, configure, upgrade EZproxy
application. Handle technical configuration changes, authorizations,
restrictions. Assist Technical Services staff with e-resources configurations
and trouble-shooting;
Serve as primary Innovative Sierra ILS and Encore Administrator: trouble-
shoot, manage system configurations and changes, permissions, upgrades, and
liaison with Innovative Interfaces Helpdesk staff;
Serve as the primary liaison for EBSCO Discovery Service (internally called
SuperSearch) with vendor;
Serve as the primary administrator for the several WordPress installations in
the Library, add themes and plugins as needed;
Serve as the backup administration for the Library's intranet server's CMS,
Expression Engine.
This is a twelve-month, non-tenured professional faculty position, with
starting rank and salary based upon qualifications and experience. It includes
responsibilities for university service and professional contributions, and
may include responsibilities for collection development.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information
studies;
Understanding of access issues associated with electronic resources; knowledge
and understanding of electronic publishing; working knowledge of bibliographic
and metadata tools (e.g., MARC records, Dublin Core, EAD, link resolvers,
knowledge bases);
Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects within an academic library
setting and knowledge of academic libraries and their users;
Extensive experience in administering and managing Integrated Library Systems
(ILS) and related interoperable software, e.g. Discovery Layer, Interlibrary
Loan System, Proxy Server, etc.;
Experience successfully managing a variety of library computer systems and
applications including content management and blogging systems;
Familiarity with electronic resources standards such as OpenURL and DOI,
SUSHI, and COUNTER, etc.;
Experience with relational database management systems, e.g. PostgresSQL,
MySQL, MS SQL;
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with administering Innovative Interfaces ILS Sierra or Millennium;
Experience with managing Expression Engine or WordPress;
Experience with discovery platforms such as EBSCO Discovery Service, Encore,
etc.
Evidence of interest and ability in applying innovative technologies and
creative problem-solving to enhance library services;
Familiarity with emerging trends, standards and technologies that impact
academic libraries;
Familiarity with network and systems administration across multiple operating
systems including Windows and Unix based proprietary and open source systems;
Demonstrated success in collaborating with or teaching technology to diverse
colleagues;
Ability to work independently or in a team.
