Originated by Stanford Media Preservation Lab and the Bay Area Video Coalition
(BAVC), the A/V Artifact Atlas (AVAA) is a living glossary of video and audio

remedies, and the goal of producing a common language for those working in the
field of audio and video preservation. The goal of the AVAA is to advance the
audiovisual archiving field generally by providing a common vocabulary for
archivists, the digitization and preservation vendors with whom they work, and
other users of archival content. This part-time, temporary position is funded
as a part of BAVC's Quality Control Tools for Video Preservation (QC Tools)
project. The goal of QC Tools is to create new software tools that can report
on and graph data documenting video signal loss, flag errors in digitization,
identify which errors and artifacts are in original format and which resulted
from the digital transfer based on the data collected.

Description:

objectives:

  * Communicate with and facilitate discussion with project contributors, advisors and the AV preservation community about project progress
  * Correlate terms in the AVAA with other dictionary resources, such as the BAVC Preservation Glossary and the Compendium of Image Errors in Analogue Video Ensure that definitions are technically accurate and complete.
  * Identify target audiences for the AVAA, and test the accessibility of the AVAA for a range of users with varying levels of expertise.
Required skills/experience:

  * Knowledge of analog video digitization principles, practices and workflows.
  * Knowledge of relevant communities and forums.
  * Project management experience.
  * Excellent communication skills. Ability to represent the project at local and national conferences.
  * Experience building working groups and communities of practice.
Desired skills/experience:

  * Familiarity with Preservation standards (PREMIS, OAIS, PBCore)
  * Familiarity with post production workflows (FinalCut, Compressor, Media Info, MPEG Streamclip)
