George Mason University Libraries seeks an experienced professional who is
attuned to the changing landscape of publishing, knowledgeable about relevant
and emerging technologies, able to successfully integrate a university press
with a robust digital library publishing program and effectively serve as
advocate for the initiative across the university.
Incumbent will manage an integrated program of existing and planned services
including an institutional repository, ETDs, e-journal hosting, e-book
production, conference proceedings, data publication, and the university
press. A key responsibility is developing and sustaining a mix of open access
and market-focused digital publishing initiatives that will bring together the
distinct strengths and perspectives of the publishing and library domains. We
seek a change-agent successful at developing sustainable partnerships across
the university.
With this position, the Mason Publishing Group consists of four professional
faculty, an e-content designer and support staff. This position
administratively reports to the Associate University Librarian for Digital
Programs and Systems and also works closely with the University Librarian and
two standing faculty advisory/editorial boards.
Qualifications: REQUIRED - Graduate degree in a relevant discipline;
demonstrated successful managerial and administrative experience in publishing
generally and e-publishing in particular; knowledge of current practices and
trends in academic publishing, scholarly communications, open-access, data
publishing and copyright; ability to create and monitor budgets; demonstrated
experience in acquisitions, P&L, writing and executing author agreements,
contract administration and publishing operations/workflows; excellent
writing, speaking and interpersonal skills. PREFERRED -
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the academic publishing
sector.
