Subject: National Geospatial Advisory Committee Appointments

Steering Committee and Coordination Group Members,

I am pleased to announce that Interior Secretary Sally Jewell has appointed a new set of members to the National Geospatial Advisory Committee. The news release announcing the appointments is posted at: http://www.doi.gov/news/pressreleases/interior-department-appoints-17-members-to-national-geospatial-advisory-committee.cfm

We are pleased to welcome a distinguished group of new and returning members to the NGAC, and we look forward to continuing a collaborative and productive relationship with the groups and organizations represented on the committee.

The new appointees to the committee are:
Mr. Dan Cotter, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Ms. Patricia Cummens, ESRI
Mr. Steve Emanuel, State of New Jersey
Prof. Joanne Irene Gabrynowicz, University of Mississippi
Mr. Bert Granberg, State of Utah
Mr. Jack Hild, DigitalGlobe, Inc.
Mr. Jeff Lovin, Woolpert, Inc.
Mr. Keith Masback, U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation
Mr. Kevin Pomfret, Centre for Spatial Law and Policy
Major General William N. Reddel III, New Hampshire National Guard
Mr. Anthony Spicci, State of Missouri
Ms. Julie Sweetkind-Singer, Stanford University
Mr. Gary Thompson, State of North Carolina
Dr. Harvey Thorleifson, Minnesota Geological Survey
Ms. Molly Vogt, Oregon Metro
Mr. Jason Warzinik, Boone County, Missouri
Mr. David Wyatt, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians

We are also very pleased that Dr. Robert Austin has agreed to serve another year as the Chair of the NGAC. Mr. Dan Cotter of the Department of Homeland Security will serve as the Vice Chair. We look forward to working with this excellent leadership team.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the NGAC members whose terms have ended and who have rotated off the committee: Mr. Richard Clark, Mr. Jack Dangermond, Dr. Jerry Johnston, Dr. E. Donald McKay, Ms. Anne Hale Miglarese, Dr. Timothy Nyerges, Mr. Matthew O'Connell, Mr. Patrick Olson, Mr. Mark Reichardt, and Mr. Gene Trobia. All of these members have made positive contributions to the committee and we appreciate their service and thoughtful advice. We had a strong set of nominees for appointment to the committee and the choices were difficult. The review panel and the Secretary sought to strike a balance between continuity of membership and new perspectives on the committee. We believe that we will continue to have an outstanding body of members to build upon the success of the committee.

I would also like to thank the individuals who served on the review panel to evaluate the NGAC nominations: Betsy Kanally (USFS), Steve Lewis (USDOT), Larry Sugarbaker (USGS), and Tim Trainor (Census). The review panel did an excellent job in reviewing the candidates and developing recommendations to the Secretary.

The next meeting of the NGAC is scheduled for April 1-2 at the Department of the Interior in Washington, DC. We will provide additional information as we get closer to the meeting.

Regards,

Ivan B. DeLoatch, Executive Director
Federal Geographic Data Committee
U.S. Geological Survey
