Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Head of Desktop Network Services assume
a leadership role and provide professional librarian support for expansion,
maintenance and evaluation of the library Institutional Repository
initiative(s) and web site(s) as a member of the Library Information
Technology Division.
The position may work non-traditional hours, such as nights, weekends, and
some holidays.
Work with library faculty and technical staff, instructional faculty,
researchers and content providers at the University of Hawaii to:

   - Expand, support and maintain Library institutional repository (IR)
   systems (Scholarspace, eVols), liaise with UH Press and other
   campus-related to explore collection development projects.
   - Develop and maintain systems and services which support, clarify and
   expand knowledge of the campus Open Access Policy and "digital
   scholarship", promote Open Access on campus through organizing events,
   information sessions;
   - Support and maintain general Library web pages and information.
   - Work with the UH System (Community College, West Oahu, UH Hilo)
   faculty and staff in support of the UH System Repository.
   - Duties combine technical and consultative functions, including but not
   limited to:
   - Manage day-to-day operation of the repositories including any
   mediated-deposit service or self-archiving by contributors;
   - Monitor impact and success of repositories, produce usage reports,
   identify areas for improvement in the services and systems;
   - Build services and relationships that anticipate and respond to the
   changes in the use of technology in higher education;
   - Participate in identifying goals and future strategies for IR services;
   - Participate in, coordinate and/or supervise students performing work
   for digitization projects;
   - Participate in development and application of web and institutional
   repository policies and guidelines;
   - Identify and market IR services to content providers and end users,
   develop marketing strategies to promote and publicize the repository;
   - Solicit input and make recommendations on metadata required for
   effective access to digital information, manage metadata workflow,
   collaborate with Metadata Librarian as appropriate;
   - Work with data contributors to improve workflow and quality, manage
   capture, description and preservation of submissions;
   - Set up test collections and create/distribute/analyze user
   satisfaction surveys;
   - Assist APT staff with troubleshooting functional/technical
   applications and metadata-related issues;
   - Work with librarian/IT team(s) on a variety of applications which
   support a broad array of services;
   - Assist with providing support for Library's main web pages;
   - Monitor relevant national & international trends and developments.

Librarian II Minimum Qualifications

   - ALA accredited MLS or equivalent.
   - Experience with Windows and Macintosh computer operating systems.
   - Understanding of the practices of web design, techniques and tools for
   web page maintenance.
   - Experience or knowledge of open-source content management software.
   - Knowledgeable about digitization and its application in libraries.
   - Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in
   writing.
   - Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact
   effectively and collegially with a broad range of diverse staff, faculty,
   the public and in collaborative initiatives with representatives from other
   units or institutions.


*Librarian III Minimum Qualifications*

   - Minimum qualifications for Librarian III.
   - Three years of relevant post-MLS experience, preferably in an academic
   research library.
   - Twenty-four post-baccalaureate credits in a related field.


Desirable Qualifications

   - Knowledge of issues and trends in repository development.
   - Knowledge of, or training in application and use of PHP, JavaScript,
   and/or Dublin Core.
   - Knowledge or ability in developing training materials and documenting
   workflow processes.
   - Knowledge or experience with Open Access initiatives and/or academic
   research Open Access policies.
   - Experience developing or performing marketing services for digital
   systems.
   - Familiarity with information needs of students, faculty and staff in
   an academic research setting.
   - Demonstrated experience with test systems and conducting user
   satisfaction/evaluation surveys.
   - Experience with handling client/customer expectations and service
   issues.
   - Demonstrated ability to monitor and produce usage reports.
   - Experience coordinating or supervising work of student employees.
   - Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
