Senior Software Developer**

**What is SILS?**
The Saskatchewan Information and Library Services Consortium (SILS) is a
network of over 300 public libraries that work together to provide seamless
and consistent library services within the province of
Saskatchewan. SILS maintains the core library technology
infrastructure for its municipal library and regional library system
members. The role of SILS will be expanding in 2014 to
include the development of patron-facing web applications with a goal of
achieving a common user experience and dynamic integration of library
collections and patron account functionality. Now is the

**We are looking for** a service-oriented individual who enjoys working in a diverse and customer-focused environment. You have experience with full-stack web development, coupled with a strong computer science background. You have demonstrated an ability to work within a fast-paced and collaborative team environment, and you have excellent skills in building relationships, communicating effectively, and serving the needs of others. Most importantly, you are a responsive, hands-on problem solver and have a propensity to get things done!
**What you'll be doing**:
As the Senior Software Developer you will be responsible for designing and
developing the core logic that lies beneath publicly facing web applications
used by public libraries in the province of Saskatchewan. You should be
comfortable with the entire web stack, from implementing visual designs to
tuning database queries. You will work closely with third-
party partners and in house staff to create cutting-edge, high-traffic
applications where reliability, performance and high availability are key.
**Key responsibilities include**:
* deliver web-based applications using a variety of technologies
* design new application features and functionality
* write API's
* define both functional and technical requirements to facilitate design, development, testing, and implementation
* define and implement best practices, standards and procedures, including quality control and delivery methodologies
* collaborate with third-party user interface designers and systems administrators as needed in order to elicit, define, and analyze requirements for new applications
* ensure compliance with the documented software processes and procedures throughout the life cycle of software products
**Qualifications and Skills**:
* BS or MS in computer science or related field
* 5+ years of software development experience
* demonstrate a mastery of one or more of the following languages: PHP, Ruby, Python
* experience integrating with 3rd party APIs using XML and JSON
* experience working with Oracle and/or MySQL databases
* have an understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX
* a genuine interest in Open Source
* developing mobile friendly websites
* familiarity with native iOS and/or Android platforms and app development
* experience working with library technologies
**Position**: The successful candidate may choose to work from the Regina office. The Consortium is open to the possibility of telecommuting from within Canada. Applicants who state their intention to telecommute may be considered on a contract basis. Applicants should state whether they intend to telecommute in their cover letter. Occasional travel may be required.
**Remuneration**: Commensurate with education and experience.
