Additional Information

Purpose

Support digital curation activities in the Information Technology Architecture and Strategy (ITAS) unit of the University of Texas Libraries.

Essential Functions

Perform Software development and analysis including testing, debugging and training. Perform Systems design, analysis, and integration with Libraries' infrastructure. Conduct project and status meetings with Libraries' staff and the campus community. Supervise classified ITAS staff.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of application programming or analysis. Demonstrated ability to analyze, test, and debug complex code. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Skilled at training technical staff. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team oriented environment. Considerable experience in systems design, analysis and programming. Experience with object oriented and procedural programming paradigms. Experience using relational database systems. Professional experience using languages such as Java, PHP, Ruby, Python and Perl. Professional experience using XML technologies such as XSLT, REST and SOAP. Professional experience working on Unix systems. Successful supervisory experience. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Five years of experience or more in application programming, analysis and system design. Experience managing or leading a team of software developers. Experience in a digital library environment. Experience with Agile software development methodologies. Experience using tools for build automation (e.g. Ant, Maven), continuous integration (e.g. Travis, Bamboo, Hudson), and version control (e.g. Git, SVN). Experience with user interface design. Experience with metadata standards related to digital libraries. Experience with digital preservation standards and practices. Demonstrated potential for leadership in university, state, national, and international programs and initiatives. Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication and problem solving skills. Evidence of initiative, creative energy and resourcefulness. Experience related to the duties. Proven ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a fast-paced and evolving technological and team-oriented environment. Proven ability to be flexible in work assignments and environments.

Working conditions

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
