Librarian II - Integrated Library System (ILS) Librarian

The Librarian II, Integrated Library System (ILS) Librarian, is responsible
for the Integrated Library System application used at WCCLS. This position
works closely with ILS and related vendors as well as team members and member
library staff to maximize use of the ILS. The ILS Librarian works closely with
committees on policies and procedures. The ILS Librarian works with team
members to achieve the standards and goals established for the ILS. The ILS
Librarian works under the supervision of the Library Automation Systems
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The incumbent will perform all the following duties:
45% ILS Support and Administration
• Responsible for ILS System Administration
• Tests, configures, documents and coordinates ILS use.
• Evaluates and implements ILS features and functions for all subsystems.
• Provides/arranges for ILS training for library staff.
• Maintains expertise in all ILS functions, including statistics.
• Supervises team members working to support, maintain, and enhance the ILS.
• Works extensively with ILS system administration subsystem.
• Coordinates ILS processes with member libraries and ILS vendor.
• Supervises ILS enhancement process.
• Serves as liaison to automation vendor(s) when resolving problems and
questions related to ILS operations.
• Works closely with Library Automation Systems Specialist to plan software
upgrades and conversions in coordination with member libraries.
• Works with vendors of products that coordinate with the ILS.
• Establishes ILS database standards.
• Acts as primary contact for ILS related questions and issues.
• Represents WCCLS at state, regional or national ILS meetings and

• Participates in WCCLS Automation program projects as team member or lead.
• Works with other WCCLS Automation staff, Cooperative staff and member
library staff to achieve the completion of assigned projects.
• Works with WCCLS Automation team members to ensure efficient and effective
program operations and customer support.
• Advises Program staff and member libraries concerning use of the ILS to
achieve excellent customer service, maximum access to library resources, and
• Applies knowledge of ILS to patron and staff procedures and policies.
• Works with Automation and member library staff to plan, envision, and advise
how ILS subsystem settings and functions will impact other subsystems and
• Advises how potential policies could be implemented in the ILS.
• Suggests policies and procedures related to ILS use.
• Acts as liaison at meetings of member library staff concerned with all ILS

15% Application Support/Troubleshooting
• WCCLS Automation staffs a Helpdesk seven (7) days a week, including evenings
Mondays through Thursdays.
• Understands network, servers, hardware and software applications to
determine the level of severity and possible solutions for troubleshooting.
• Troubleshoots system problems and application errors for member libraries
and WCCLS web users who contact the Helpdesk.
• Shares provision of telephone and email help-desk support for all centrally
supported software applications and wide area network.
• Works with software vendors in troubleshooting applications as needed.
• Consults with automation colleagues and vendors to determine best practices
for software use and recommends improvements.
• Tests software.
• Includes some evening and weekend shifts.
Extensive knowledge of:
• Principles, practices, and service delivery needs related to library
• Principles and practices of professional library work, including methods,
practices, and techniques of library reference, technical services or
children's library services relevant to specific areas of responsibility.
• Principles, techniques, and procedures in cataloging, indexing, classifying,
bibliographic research, and organizing library materials relevant to specific
areas of responsibility.
• Recent developments, current literature, and sources of information related
to library science.
• Methods of selecting library materials and collection development.
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including
administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
• Principles of library ethics and Intellectual Freedom.
• Record keeping principles and procedures.
• Techniques for effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors,
and member library staff, in person and over the telephone.
• Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to public and
member library staff, in person and over the telephone.
General knowledge of:
• Principles of supervision and training, including work planning, assignment,
review and evaluation, and the training of staff in work procedures.
• Techniques for effectively representing the Cooperative Library Services in
contacts with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business,
professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations.
• Analyze, apply, and verify applicable Federal, State, and local policies,
procedures, laws, and regulations.
• Identify and implement effective course of action to complete assigned work.
• Oversee and participate in related projects, studies, and programs.
• Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing
effective and efficient library services programs.
• Coordinate, direct, and implement library services programs suited to the
needs of the community.
• Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an
effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet
critical time deadlines.
• Use modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized
software applications programs.
• Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
A Master's level education in Library Science from an accredited American
Library Association program or related field; and two years of recent and
relevant professional level library experience. Extensive experience in a
professional-level librarian position may substitute for the degree
