The University of Oregon Libraries' Digital Scholarship Center (DSC)
collaborates with faculty and students to transform research, instruction,
interpretation, and scholarly communication using new media and digital
technologies. The DSC provides workshops, consultations, and tools for digital
scholarship based on a foundation of access, sharing, and preservation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Digital Applications Librarian is responsible
for providing leadership and expertise for the Libraries on existing and
emerging technologies including digital repository, discovery and preservation
systems. This position manages the day-to-day technical support for digital
asset management systems and digital humanities' tools; recommends,
configures, and provides support for new and emerging technologies and
processes; provides essential leadership in consortial and partner
collaborations and actively participates in the Hydra Community representing
University of Oregon and Oregon Digital. This position supervises .5 FTE
student assistants and reports to the Head, Digital Scholarship Center.
Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library/information
science/studies or terminal degree in computer science with two years' library
experience; proficient in at least one object-oriented language (Ruby, Python,
PHP, etc.); excellent communication, interpersonal and organizations skills;
demonstrated experience with Unix or Linux server platforms, related software,
and basic system administration utilities; experience working with APIs,
mobile technologies and/or web services (REST, SOAP); demonstrated ability to
learn new technical skills quickly; and demonstrated ability to meet
deadlines. The successful candidate will support and
enhance a diverse learning and working environment.
Desired: Demonstrated hands-on experience implementing, managing and writing
code for library or integrated library systems; knowledge of digital
preservation systems; experience implementing and developing open source
applications; working knowledge of DSpace and/or Fedora; knowledge of metadata
standards; knowledge of Linked Data and its application to library and
cultural heritage projects; working knowledge of SQL, NoSQL databases, and/or
RDF triplestores; and experience implementing and maintaining a search index
such as Solr or ElasticSearch. The appointed candidate will
be required to successfully complete a criminal background check.
