The Systems Librarian serves as part of the library management team
participating in short and long-range planning, training of faculty and staff,
data collection and reporting, policy development, and other professional
support of library operations.
Reference/Instruction: Shares in assisting students, faculty, and staff in
making effective use of library resources through virtual and in-person
reference assistance, instruction sessions and one-on-one in-depth
consultations by appointment or through regularly scheduled reference desk
hours. Teaches Information Literacy Skills, the use of library resources,
citation management programs, Internet searching, and applications software.
Creates instructional curricula for delivery in-person or online to
undergraduate classes, satellite locations, and distance students. Teaches
instruction sessions and provides individual reference consultations to
students and faculty in all subject areas with a special focus on outreach to
assigned liaison areas. Works closely with the Writing Center, and tutoring
services to promote library services and resources to teaching faculty.
Systems: leads the library in planning, development, implementation, and
support of its technology infrastructure. Administers and maintains the
integrated library system (Koha Academic), maintains the library's website
using a web content management system (CampusEAI), as well as administers the
library's EZproxy server, link resolver, and Journals A-to-Z service. Manages
and strengthens access to electronic resources and equipment as well as
oversees multimedia resources and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Teaches students and faculty to make effective use of resources through general and subject-specific library instruction classes; develops innovative teaching techniques and technology to promote information literacy.
* Provides a variety of reference services to patrons, including general reference assistance delivered primarily via chat and in-person, plus in-depth reference in assigned subject areas.
* Administers and maintains the library's technological infrastructure, including the library website, library catalog, EZproxy server, link resolver, Journals A-to-Z service, and public computers and computer lab; investigates, evaluates, and recommends new technologies to improve access and delivery of information resources.
* Oversees the library's circulating equipment collection, including the supervision of the library's Multimedia Specialist.
* Collaborates with the Technical Services Librarian in cataloging print and electronic resources, effectively using the integrated library system (Koha Academic), MARC formats, LC classification and subject headings, AAACR2, Z39.50, OCLC CatExpress, LC ClassWeb and other applicable and emerging standards, technologies and tools to enhance and expedite the process.
* Markets the library and its resources through social media, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Foursquare.
* Actively cultivates and maintains dynamic relationships with individual faculty and the NWACC instructional community at large by promoting collaboration and marketing the Libraries' resources and services.
* Contributes to the mission of the NWACC Library by assessing user needs and satisfaction with learning outcomes, implementing appropriate web-based applications, serving on committees, and maintaining an awareness of changes in allied departments, including Information Technology Services and instructional support across the disciplines.
* Develops and maintains professional skills by participating in continuing education and professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and committee work; by conducting research or writing for publication; or by engaging in other creative and learning activities.
* Participates in national library communication by reading, responding to, and initiating information transmitted via listservs and other communication tools and appropriate departmental meetings and asking questions, seeking clarification, or initiating discussion on library issues.
* Performs collection development duties for assigned subject areas (books, media, journals, databases).
* Represents the library on college-wide technology committees and other committees as needed.
* Utilizes and stays current with new software and applications for the creation of online information literacy tutorials.
* Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution or a Master's degree in
related field with current enrollment in ALA-accredited MLS program. Plus 3
years related experience and/or training, and 3 years related management
experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time
position with benefits.
