Essential Functions: The Digitization Projects Assistant, under the
supervision of the University Library Archivist, provides assistance with
Special Collections and Archives digitization initiatives, ensures the
completeness and accuracy of digitized materials, and strives to ensure online
access to Special Collections and archival materials. The incumbent will:
perform project and quality control; physically prepare and post original
archival materials; enter data and maintain project spreadsheets and other
documentation; assist with developing procedures and specifications for
collecting, preserving, and prioritizing production to develop high levels of
digitization productivity; participate in processing archival materials in all
formats (including surveying, apprising, acquiring accessioning, arranging,
preserving, and describing records); and may assist researchers in the Special
Collections Reading room.
Required Qualifications & Experience: High school graduate or equivalent. Two
years of full-time experience working in a Library that has provided: a solid
foundation in overall library policies, practices and procedures, exercise
good judgment and take initiative. Experience working with archives or special
collections; knowledge and application of professional and archival standards
and best practices; familiarity with accepted conservation and preservation
methods applied to archival and manuscript collections; and sensitivity to the
proper care and handling of special collections. Must possess: working
knowledge of computers, word processing, database and spreadsheet programs;
excellent organizational skills; and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal
skills. Must be accurate and have attention to detail; ability to meet
deadlines consistently; a commitment to fostering a diverse educational
environment and workplace; and ability to work with a diverse student and
faculty population. Fingerprints will be taken and checked by the California
Department of Justice and the FBI.
Special Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year
college or university; advanced coursework in library science, history or
related field; post undergraduate library work experience, in Special
Collections or Digital Collections; experience with Photoshop and/or computer
database development and management; and with historical materials.
