Digital Services Specialist

Under the supervision of the Digital Services Librarian, the Digital Services
Specialist participates in the addition, maintenance, and expansion of digital
library and institutional repository collections and content. Responsible for
digital production processes and quality assurance during the digital
conversion process, and digital content management within traditional file
systems as well as content management systems and digital access platforms
such as DigitalGeorgetown. Leverages a variety of tools to ensure digital
content integrity, and ingest content into various platforms. Properly handles
fragile and rare materials during digitization, using archival preservation
standards and scanning techniques; corrects for color and manipulates digital
objects as required for access and preservation. Monitors and supervises the
work of student employees and provides guidance and training to students.
Assists with documentation of project procedures and workflows. Compiles and
organizes usage statistics from a variety of sources on a regular schedule.
Generates reports to identify quality issues or concerns, and implements
solutions in accordance with established standards and internal workflows.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with database or digital objects management, imaging and/or
metadata creation. Knowledge of digital objects, imaging
and video/audio software. Understanding of metadata and standardization of
descriptive data. Experience using image manipulation software such as Adobe
Photoshop. Experience in web site development or scripting preferred.
Understanding of file format, types and media streaming is preferred.
Strong analytical, inter-personal, and communication skills; ability to work
effectively with a team. Demonstrated commitment to risk-
taking. Ability to be flexible with changing
responsibilities and duties as new and additional needs become
known. Record of participation and/or contribution in
library professional organizations.
