Brandeis University is looking for an Associate University Librarian. This
person will participate in the library's leadership team with the University
Librarian and other Associate University Librarians, as well as, in the
Library and Technology Services Leadership group. This person needs to possess
a deep appreciation for the importance of both signature and core collections
in a research library.
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
Controls the budget for procurement and delivery of information resources.
Synthesizes information about the use of digital and print collections in
order to drive future purchasing and subscriptions. Manages purchase card
accounts and transactions. Manages funds for restricted and endowed accounts.
Reconciles internal accounting with University accounts. Acts as liaison with
University's accounts payable office and procurement department to ensure
efficient business processes. Provides analytical reports on expenditures,
including trend analysis and expenditure projections. Advocates on behalf of
resources for collections both on campus and within the Library, representing
the Library and its collections to campus and external resource allocators.
Leads library-wide planning and policy development for collections.
Manages the acquisition processes for information resources. Works closely
with vendors and publishers to negotiate and manage costs. Leads efforts to
implement electronic ordering, invoicing, and payment. Leads efforts to create
efficient work processes, including acquisition of shelf-ready materials.
Works closely with the Associate University Librarian for Public Services to
manage licenses and contracts for information resources, including course
reserve materials. Coordinates collection assessment activities with Academic
Outreach Librarians. Manages mail-room operations.
Supervises cataloging, metadata, and collection services. Sets policy for
those services. Supervises maintenance of bibliographic databases and of the
integrated library system. Supervises gifts processing.
Qualifications:
Masters in library and information science required; additional graduate
education welcome.
At least five years of experience in managing staff and budgets.
Strong and detailed knowledge of acquisition and procurement processes in
academic libraries.
Expert in multiple library metadata schemas, and in the use and transformation
of metadata.
Proficient with integrated library systems and data analysis tools. Expert in
digital collection development.
Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to
manage complex projects and the ability to foster teamwork. Detailed
understanding of the online information environment as managed by a library
organization. Experience in collection development for research libraries.
