Illinois College is a residential, private liberal arts college located in
historic Jacksonville, Illinois, 70 miles northeast of Saint Louis, Missouri,
and 30 miles west of Springfield, the Illinois State Capitol. True to its
founding vision in 1829, Illinois College is a community committed to the

Summary

The Digital Services Librarian advances digital scholarship initiatives by
providing consultation, technical support, and project management for faculty,
librarians, staff, and students engaged in technology-rich scholarly
projects. Works directly with faculty, students, and staff
in identifying and deploying appropriate tools and technologies to meet
research or publication needs. In addition to direct support at the project
level, s/he will deliver training, group instruction, and workshops on Digital
Scholarship topics, and will maintain project documentation for digital
scholarly production. This role requires strong technological and
communication skills, and a willingness to learn about discipline-specific and
interdisciplinary research methodology. The ability to listen, articulate
problems, and find effective technology solutions across a variety of
disciplines, while working with a range of clients from novice scholars to
senior faculty, is essential.

  
The Digital Services Librarian administers and maintains the library's
integrated library system and ensures its optimal performance and continuous
development; manages the library's hardware and software applications; and
plays an active role in the library's digital initiatives. This position works
with library staff to regularly assess procedures, and develops strategies for
the implementation of technologies to enhance access to the collections, to
increase productivity, and to streamline workflows.

  
Essential Functions

The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work
performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility

logical extension of position responsibilities.

  
Maintains a strong knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues and best
practices in academic libraries in the areas of online research assistance,
instructional technologies, and user experience services.

Develops and delivers online and in-person instruction sessions for both
students and faculty.

Collaborates with other librarians to explore new technologies that support
online learning, mobile marketing of library services and enhance the
library's virtual presence.

Provides guidance on development of spaces that enrich and enhance learning
experiences of users through a synthesis of technology, pedagogy and design.

Manages metadata and cataloging processes.

Implements new RDA standards.

Supervises and manages workflow of electronic resources acquisition and use.

Implements licensing and electronic resource best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  
American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master's degree in library
science or Information Science.

Ability to learn and work with the College's course management systems.

• Experience applying assessment methods to evaluate student learning.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively across
scholarly and technology domains.

Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in a
rapidly changing and dynamic environment.

Strong project management skills.

Commitment to engage in research and continued professional development.

  
Preferred Qualifications

  
Practical knowledge of and experience with a range of tools for the analysis
and display of information, such as online exhibit tools, social media,
scanning/OCR, data visualization, geospatial analysis, encoding and text
mining, programming and scripting languages, format conversion and editing
protocols and tools, graphic design, relational databases, metadata schema,
and open web standards
