in the U.S., is hiring an experienced, entrepreneurial, and service-oriented
Computational Research Initiatives Manager to join our dynamic Library and
Technology Services group. The
Computational Research Initiatives Manager provides coordination and support
for the use of computational solutions (resources, tools and methods) in
research and instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary liaison to faculty on research server and storage needs.
Consult with faculty and students on their research computing requirements and
work with LTS colleagues to provide appropriate solutions.
Provide research consultations for faculty and students in an area of academic
specialty. Support discipline-specific software/technologies including
scientific instrumentation interfaces. Work with faculty partners to provide
course-integrated technical workshops.
In conjunction with the Systems team, participate in the design, build,
maintenance and support of research storage and server environments including
implementing comprehensive server security standards and backup and recovery
policies. Coordinate and participate in technical projects
and provide creative input on strategies for future research technology needs.
An ideal candidate is able to work independently and in a team environment; is
aware of new technologies and trends and their application in meeting faculty
research needs; demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills
and an ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
Due to the nature of supporting essential services, on-call and remote support
is an expectation of this role.
Advanced degree (M.A./M.S.) in a relevant discipline required. PhD preferred.
Candidates should have 3-5 years experience in information services or a
discipline-related field including
Strong data-driven Research experience (commensurate with experience level)
including the management of research systems and their underlying
technologies. Experience coding in one or more
languages. Experience supporting Linux (CentOS, RedHat
preferred) and Windows server (2003/2008 minimum).
Understanding of network concepts and protocols (e.g., DNS, VLANs, IP routing,
host firewalls). Familiarity with the command line for
system and network-based troubleshooting.
Experience leading small to medium sized technical
investigations. Ability to acquire new
skills. Must be able to move quickly between tasks and
technical environments. Proven written and oral
communication skills. Teaching (small group and classroom),
Scripting (Bash, Perl), and experience translating between coding languages
preferred. This position provides support for faculty using
a wide range of instrumentation, languages, software, and other related
technologies.
