The Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame seeks an energetic,
creative, collaborative, forward-thinking, and service-oriented Emerging
Technologies Librarian to be a member of our Academic Outreach & Engagement
program. The successful candidate will be innovative, results-oriented,
strategically focused and highly knowledgeable in the area of emerging
technologies. S/he will possess excellent communications, interpersonal, and
team skills. Working both independently and collegially, s/he will help lead
the Libraries in creating superb specialized services for today's students and
faculty as well as those of tomorrow.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The individual in this position will be responsible for assisting users with
the identification, evaluation, and use of emerging technologies in the
creation of a variety of media-rich projects. S/he will explore, develop,
promote, and assess innovative online tools and related services for library
learners and identify learning and engagement opportunities to support student
research and promote student success. A significant task will be to maintain
and expand a website (https://remix.nd.edu/) that promotes and supports
student creation of media-rich projects. S/he will help students individually
and in the classroom setting to identify and use a variety of digital media in
their assignments, and s/he will work collaboratively with teaching faculty,
especially those in the Multimedia Writing & Rhetoric program, to identify
ways to incorporate media-rich assignments into student coursework. This
person will help to identify, monitor, assess, and relay information about new
and emerging technologies of interest to the Library, including
recommendations for adoption. S/he will work collaboratively with a dynamic
group of library colleagues to provide point of need reference services,
course-integrated library instruction, library workshops, and a variety of
outreach activities. S/he will also work with librarians to create and
implement online learning modules to support both information and digital
literacy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate school or an equivalent terminal
degree. Candidates must have experience with web applications and demonstrate
the ability to identify, evaluate, and use emerging technologies effectively
to enhance library instruction and other outreach services. Enthusiasm for
working with students and faculty, excellent oral and written communication
skills, the ability to work well with colleagues, and demonstrable
instructional skills are also required. The ideal candidate will have some
knowledge of copyright law as it applies to digital media, as well as
knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques, including
curriculum design principles, learning theory, and group and individual
teaching techniques. Experience teaching library skills in
an academic setting, and experience working with diverse cultures and learning
styles are preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a clear understanding of
academic libraries and their connection to campus stakeholders. Candidates
with experience in programming and web design relevant to the construction of
online learning objects and experience or coursework in instructional design
are preferred.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Appointment salary and rank are competitive, commensurate with experience and
qualifications. Librarians are non-tenure track members of the Library
Faculty. The University offers an excellent benefits and annual vacation
package.
