We're looking for a developer to join our dynamic team. You will be
responsible for helping community members with their institution-specific
extensions and deployments; developing schema extension sets to support a
variety of practice communities; participating on the technical committee
where you will work with and learn from other developers how to fix bugs,
contribute to the code review process, develop written and visual
documentation, and collaborate on the development of new features and
functionality. In addition, you will manage the release process including
writing test plans, working with the community on quality assurance testing
and code contributions, and automating tests. Learn more about our established

You don't have to be an expert Java developer to join our
team. And, you can live wherever you'd like to live. We do,
however, need you to be a self starter, eager to learn, able to manage your
time well, and be comfortable working in an open source environment that
values transparency, community, and collaboration.
This position is funded full-time for eighteen months by a grant from the
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
**Duties**
* Provide technical support for community members on how best to prepare for and deploy local-use configurations.
* Lead the development of schema extension sets for specific practice communities
* Author technical documentation (written and visual)
* Contribute to and support the work of the CollectionSpace Technical Committee, which maintains community-based technical review and guidance for the direction and development of CollectionSpace
* Represent CollectionSpace at relevant conferences; teach workshops, and help others learn how to get involved
* Participate in the community code contribution review process
* Track and prioritize bugs, tasks, and similar issues using issue tracking systems. Fix bugs based on identified priorities
* Automated the largely manual testing process
* Manage technical quality assurance process
* Develop and maintain scripts and tools to build, test, package, and deploy CollectionSpace to development, staging, and production environments
* Manage and administer the version control system, including creating release branches and tagging releases
* Compile, build, and package CollectionSpace releases - including major, minor, and patch releases
* Assist with the implementation of necessary upgrades to CollectionSpace architecture and/or user interface
* Provide input on strategic directions for CollectionSpace organizational home and software based on knowledge of the technology environment in museums
**Experience**
_Required_
Demonstrated experience with:
* Version control (using Git and GitHub)
* One or more high-level programming languages, e.g. Python, Ruby, Java, etc.
* Software release management (release planning, managing release branches, tagging releases) and test-driven development (version control, continuous integration, static analysis of code, and code coverage tools)
* Working within an agile software development environment
* Working effectively in a team environment
* Working effectively with stakeholders
Knowledge of and experience with the following:
* Continuous integration tools (e.g. Hudson/Jenkins, Travis-CI, Bamboo)
* Issue tracking systems
_Preferred_
Knowledge of and experience with some of the following:
* Apache Tomcat
* Java
* JavaScript
* JavaScript frameworks (JQuery, Dojo Toolkit, YUI, etc.)
* JavaScript debugging (Firebug, integral debuggers in Chrome, Safari, etc.)
* JavaScript unit testing
* LAMP application development
* SQL
* PostgreSQL and/or MySQL database programming
* Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) systems
* XML
* HTML
* CSS
* OAI-PMH and other data harvesting protocols
* Server virtualization
* Enterprise content management systems; Nuxeo preferred
* IT best practices
* Backup and recovery methods
**Skills and Abilities:**
* Ability to troubleshoot application, database, network, and operating system related issues; ability to analyze stack trace, heap dump; profiler knowledge a plus
* Understanding of the software development life cycle
* Understanding of incident, problem, change, and release management practices
* Excellent written communication skills, including producing technical documentation
* Must possess self-directed initiative and excel in the areas of time management, organization, and prioritization
**Education or Equivalent Work Experience:**
A four-year college degree and a minimum of two years of full-time, paid
employment in an information technology position or a minimum of six years of
full-time-equivalent, paid employment in information technology positions.
