Go For Broke National Education Center is seeking a Digital Collections
Manager to oversee a forward-thinking initiative that will create a
"collection of collections" of audio and videotaped oral histories, photo, and
other first-person materials from our collection and those of Japanese
American WWII veteran organizations around the country. This position is
responsible for the cataloging of these collections to make them accessible
for online research through a web-based portal. It is also responsible for
coordinating the digitization of these collections with our university library
digital repository partner that uses archival-quality digitization equipment
and data storage procedures to ensure long-term preservation of these digital
contents. This is a full-time position in Torrance, California.
Major Areas of Responsibilities: Will be responsible for the technical details
of this initiative, including metadata creation; migrating digital resources;
managing standards usage compliance; collaborating with community-based
partner organizations and their archives personnel (primarily volunteers);
providing metadata training, and supervision and training of archive
assistants, student interns and volunteers.
Required Qualifications
* ALA-accredited MLIS degree or equivalent in a related field.
* Three or more years post-MLIS experience in archives and/or special collections with digitized and born-digital materials.
* Experience in developing preserving, and managing digital collections in an archives environment including knowledge of standards for digital capture and storage, metadata creation and delivery mechanisms.
* Training or experience in records management practice and procedures (records lifecycle concepts, retention schedules, legal and regulatory compliance, disaster recovery, etc.).
* Experience using emerging technologies for metadata management and delivery such as RDA and linked data.
* Knowledge of metadata and encoding standards (Dublin Core, EAD, MODS/METS, XML, TEI, MARC 21), and experience with archival management systems such as ArchivesSpace.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and successful supervisory experience with staff, volunteers, interns, and student workers.
* Excellent written and oral skills.
Other Desired Qualifications
* Familiarity with the Japanese American experience during World War II.
* Experience with Omeka collections hosting web platform.
* Knowledge and experience in web design and development.
