Metadata Services Specialist

The Metadata Services Specialist is responsible for original MARC cataloging
and complex copy cataloging of materials in all formats, in English and
foreign languages, with an emphasis on original cataloging of Archives and
Special Collections materials; for applying and maintaining controlled
vocabularies and performing authority work as needed; for creating metadata
using Dublin Core and other schema as appropriate for digital derivatives and
born-digital resources; and for assisting with planning, implementing and
monitoring metadata projects and initiatives in collaboration with colleagues
working with print, electronic and digital resources.
Qualifications
Required:
* Master's degree in Library or Information Science from ALA accredited program or related field.
* Two years of experience in cataloging and/or metadata creation using current standards and resources.
* Experience cataloging monographs and serials in English and other language(s), using MARC, RDA, LC Classification, LC Rule Interpretations and controlled vocabularies, including creating authority records.
* Knowledge of cataloging standards, practices, and products, including but not limited to LC classification, LCSH, MARC formats, RDA and LC-PCC Policy Statements; AACR2 and LCRIs.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Adaptability to adjust quickly to changes in priorities, procedures and/or resources.
* Good time management skills.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Analytical ability to assess workflows and resolve problems.
* Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
Preferred:
* Experience cataloging in one or more Western European languages strongly preferred; experience with other foreign languages, including non-Roman Alphabet languages, considered.
* Experience/coursework in special collections cataloging with DCRM, archival cataloging with DACS, and RBMS vocabularies.
* Experience/coursework in Dublin Core and/or other schema and metadata creation for electronic and digital resources.
* Experience cataloging rare and archival materials, including unpublished materials, using DCRM, DACS and RBMS vocabularies.
* Experience with Dublin Core and/or other metadata schema.
* Experience with metadata creation for electronic, audio-visual and digital resources.
* Knowledge of special collections cataloging with DCRM, archival cataloging with DACS, including collection-level cataloging of unpublished materials.
* Familiarity with thesauri such as Thesaurus for Graphic Materials and Art and Architecture Thesaurus.
* Familiarity with OCLC, CONTENTdm, RDA Toolkit, Classification Web, and Cataloger's Desktop is helpful, as is an awareness of developing metadata trends such as BIBFRAME and linked data principles.
