Coordinator for Digital Collection Services

POSITION: The Colorado State University Libraries seeks a collaborative,
innovative, and dynamic Coordinator for Digital Collection Services to lead
the development, management, and advancement of campus and cooperative digital
collections and repository services. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for
Digital Library and ePublishing Services Division, the department includes
five faculty and seven classified staff and is organized into the Digitization
Unit, the Digital Repository Unit, and Data Management. The successful
candidate will demonstrate a clear vision of the services, infrastructure, and
skills required to provide high quality assistance to our faculty, students,
and researchers.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This individual works closely with staff in the Division,
Archives and Special Collections, other Libraries units, and the campus to
leverage the full range of expertise and resources in building, managing, and
promoting the consortial digital repository service, Digital Collections of
Colorado (http://digitool.library.colostate.edu) and its content. This
position:
Provides leadership, strategic and operational planning, and supervision of
activities related to digital asset management, repository, data management,
and preservation systems and services in an environment of anticipated change;
Engages with the campus community on how to best support teaching, research,
and scholarly activities utilizing the Libraries' digital collections, data
services, and digital repository;
Collaborates with librarians, researchers, and campus partners to develop,
deliver, and promote new services in response to rapidly expanding needs in
data management;
Works closely with the Coordinators and others involved in creating and
managing unique digital content, including from Archives and Special
Collections;
Identifies grant opportunities and works collaboratively to create proposals
to develop and support digital collections and services;
Serves as a member of the Libraries Services Group of Assistant Deans and
Coordinators;
Serves on Libraries and university-wide committees, task forces, and
initiatives as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* MLS from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program or equivalent advanced degree;
* Minimum of five years of professional experience in digital initiatives, digital collections, or digital publishing in an academic research library;
* Minimum of two years of experience directly supervising staff;
* Experience working with an institutional repository platform/software (e.g., DSpace, Fedora Commons, Eprints, DigiTool, CONTENTdm, etc.);
* Experience planning and managing projects and project teams;
* Knowledge of digital preservation standards and best practices;
* Familiarity with appropriate metadata schema/markup standards (including, but not limited to MARC21, Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MODS, RDA);
* Familiarity with data interchange standards (e.g., OAI-PMH);
* Knowledge of emerging trends in digital scholarship, including open access, scholarly publishing, and data sharing;
* Excellent written communication skills;
* Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills;
* Strong analytical and decision-making skills;
* Ability to work well with a diverse employee and user community;
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a rapidly evolving environment;
* Ability to meet tenure and promotion requirements.
Preferred:
* Experience managing the day-to-day work of technical staff in digital services;
* Demonstrated interest in growing expertise in digital initiatives and technologies as they apply to open access digital repositories, scholarly communication, and data services;
* Experience with integrated library systems;
* Knowledge of the semantic web and linked data;
* Knowledge of current issues and trends in intellectual property, copyright, and fair use;
* Experience with quality assurance and quality control in the digital environment;
* Knowledge of current digital reformatting and digital conversion policies and trends, including issues related to application of metadata to digital objects;
* Experience creating, reviewing, editing and bulk loading of metadata or content for digital collections;
* Experience writing, managing, implementing, or contributing to grant proposals;
* Experience with consortial collaborations;
* Experience supervising or mentoring professional staff;
* Understanding of best practices in data management;
* Personal and professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by involvement in teaching, research, creative activity, service to the profession and/or diversity/inclusion activities.
RANK and SALARY:
Faculty status and responsibilities. Twelve-month tenure-track appointment
with contract reviewed annually until tenure is granted.
Rank is dependent upon qualifications. Insurance benefits
are available for appointments of half-time or greater, and faculty and
administrative professionals may select from several options for medical,
dental, life, and personal disability insurance, as well as retirement
plans. Full-time faculty and administrative professionals
earn 24 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave
annually. Optional deferred compensation. Salary:
$68,000-$78,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
