Tisch Library supports Tufts' School of Arts & Sciences and the School of
Engineering, providing the services and resources to assist members of the
Tufts community in their teaching, learning and research. Tisch Library
provides collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to support
the creation and dissemination of scholarship. This is a dynamic time for
libraries, and Tisch Technical Services engages in initiatives utilizing
Project Management principles to manage workflows and provide the opportunity
for staff to share knowledge and develop skills needed to manage an
increasingly complex digital environment. Technical Services cultivates
teamwork and collaborative relationships within and outside Tisch Library to
provide access to high-quality resources and services for our users.
Tisch Library Technical Services seeks an innovative, collaborative, service-
oriented librarian to be part of a team that manages all phases of electronic
resources for the Libraries, from evaluation and setup through implementation
and ongoing maintenance. The libraries have created a shared service model for
managing electronic resources and the successful candidate will help shape the
model going forward. He/She will also help drive the development and growth of
metadata services in Tisch Library in support of digital scholarship at the
University.
The Electronic Resources and Metadata Services Librarian's responsibilities
include providing effective management of electronic resources purchased by
the Libraries; providing leadership in developing, recommending, documenting
and implementing policies and procedures that promote best practices for
management and access, resolving data-related problems, acting as a resource
within and beyond the department for electronic resources management; managing
metadata for electronic resources using various library resource management
applications including Millennium's III ERM module, Serials Solutions
management tools, and local databases; providing oversight for electronic
resources maintenance projects, including a comprehensive review of the
information maintained in the library's Electronic Resources Management (ERM)
system.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience with non-MARC metadata
standards such as Dublin Core or MODS, and will have familiarity with markup
languages such as HTML5 and XML, and XML editing software such as Oxygen.
Preferred qualifications also include knowledge of a foreign language,
experience with the Millennium Integrated Library System (ILS); knowledge of
established and emerging national and international standards relating to
metadata and classification.
