The Atlanta University Center - Robert W. Woodruff Library supports the
teaching and learning missions of four institutions of higher learning that
comprise the world's largest consortium of HBCUs--Clark Atlanta University,
the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, and Spelman
College. Conveniently located and easily accessible to the
campuses, the Woodruff Library is the center of the intellectual and social
life at the Atlanta University Center.

  
The Archives Research Center at the Atlanta University Center Robert W.
Woodruff Library has a rich collection documenting the African American
experience and the African Diaspora. It features manuscript
writings and books, including first edition titles, limited printings
autographed and rare publications. The extensive collection
of books, personal papers, organizational and institutional records supports
research in education, literature, the arts, religion, politics and society
and community empowerment. Additionally, the AUC Woodruff
Library serves as the custodian of the Morehouse College Martin Luther King,
Jr. and Tupac Amaru Shakur Collections.

  
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Atlanta University Center - Robert W. Woodruff Library is committed to
displaying excellence in our delivery of service. Notable
accomplishments include, recipient of two Communicator Awards for print
communication materials, recipient of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant
for HBCU Photographic Preservation Project Round II, and national recognition
with the receipt of two awards in the 28th Annual Educational Advertising
Awards. To continue our excellence in program and services,
the library is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, service-oriented, and
collaborative, Metadata & Digital Resources Librarian. The Metadata & Digital
Resources Librarian will work with members of the Archives Research Center,
Digital Services, and Resource Acquisition & Management units to coordinate
the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of metadata representing the
Library's physical and digital collections. The incumbent
will be responsible for original cataloging of materials in multiple formats
(textual, media, and digital) in particular, those resources associated with
archival and special collections. S/he will work with the
Systems Librarian to maintain accurate, timely holdings data in the library's
knowledge bases and other systems. In addition, the Metadata & Digital
Resources Librarian will assist with the acquisition of library resources for
assigned subject area(s) utilizing a variety of vendors.

  
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  
Add, update, and/or delete bibliographic, item, and/or holdings records for
physical and online resources.

Provide metadata description for original locally digitized materials

Work with Digital Services staff to create standardized practices for
ingesting metadata into the Library's institutional repository and/or other
digital collections platforms.

Collaborate with Digital Services Unit and Archives Research Center staff to
develop local cataloging and metadata policies and procedures, and implement
national standards, rules and best practices for cataloging and metadata for
archival and special collections in a variety of formats.

Work with Systems Librarian to maintain accurate, timely online resources
holdings data in the library's knowledge bases and other systems.

Serve as acquisitions liaison for subject specialist(s) in assigned subject
area(s).

Acquire monographs, media materials, and other library resources for assigned
subject area(s) utilizing a variety of vendors.

Serve on a rotating basis (including some weekends) at one of the Library's
public service points.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  
ALA accredited MLS/MSIS or Masters of Archival Studies or
a subject Masters with Archival Certification

2-3 years work experience in a technical services department or archives in an
academic library

Experience with MARC and non-MARC metadata standards used in digital libraries
and archives, such as Dublin Core, EAD, DACS, preservation metadata.

Experience with or education in emerging RDA and FRBR/BIBFRAME conceptual
models.

Experience with digital content management systems, such as CONTENTdm or
Digital Commons.

Experience assessing metadata needs for digitized and special collections.

Demonstrated experience working with integrated library systems such as OCLC
WMS and web resources available in an academic and/or public library

Knowledge of standard library methods and classification systems highly
desirable (e.g. Library of Congress classification system, AACR2, Dublin Core,
MARC)

Strong computer skills; experience with iMACs and applicable software
desirable

Demonstrated experience with standard office software such as Microsoft Office
applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy

Demonstrated skill to implement and adapt to change and balance multiple tasks
and work priorities in a fast paced environment

Effective analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills

Strong customer service experience; ability to work independently and as a
member of a team

Ability to take initiative and be accountable for results
