Special Collections and Digital Curation Librarian
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting the
information needs of the University community; a strong customer service
orientation; an ability and desire to interact effectively with students,
faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds; an ability to manage
multiple priorities and meet deadlines; and a willingness to take initiative
in devising innovative and creative solutions. The successful candidate will
be able to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators
in an academic environment.

  
Responsibilities:

  
Provide leadership in the management of the Special Collections and University
Archives unit as well as the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library.

Develop a strategic and systematic approach to acquiring and maintaining items
of historical significance to the University.

Build and maintain donor relations by acting as the public facing
representative of collections.

The expansion of the Special Collections and University Archives web presence
in coordination with the library Digital Services & Technology and the campus
IT departments.

Creation of in-house and online exhibits as well as organizing and promoting
events.

Identify, write, and participate in grant proposals and projects.

Collaborate with the library Digital Services & Technology to identify, plan,
and execute strategies for digitizing and accessing materials online.

Build and manage an internship program to process and provide access to the
Archives.

Serve as a point of contact and negotiator for Special Collections licensing
inquiries from the campus and broader community.

Participate in reference, collection development, and liaison activities with
assigned departments.

Mentor, encourage, advise, and collaborate with colleagues.

Rank: Senior Assistant/Associate Librarian (tenure-track)

  
Starting Salary range: Salary range of $58,044 - $73,092. Salary and rank are
dependent on qualifications and experience. This is a 12-month full-time
position.

  
Minimum Qualifications

  * ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent degree.
  * Demonstrated experience working with digital archives, digital repositories, and/or Special Collections.
  * Customer service orientation and enthusiasm for public service.
  * Excellent writing and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse and rapidly evolving environment.
  * Ability to work both independently and as a team player in a dynamic environment on a variety of projects simultaneously.
  * Ability and desire to promote library services and collections.
  * Ability to meet expectations for professional growth consistent with standards for re-appointment, promotion, and tenure.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  * Grant-writing experience.
  * Knowledge of current practices and trends in the preservation and conservation of physical materials for both general and special collections.
  * Working knowledge or hands-on experience with digital repository software (i.e., DSpace, Digital Commons, ContentPro, CollectiveAccess, etc.).
  * Knowledge of descriptive and encoding standards such as EAD, MODS, METS, XML/XSL or other metadata standards.
  * Working knowledge of intellectual property and copyright issues related to digital repositories, archives, and special collections.
  * Familiarity with preservation theory and current research and practices regarding risks to digital collections, such as technological changes, natural disasters, interoperability of software, and security issues.
  * Familiarity with content management systems used to author websites.
  * PR or marketing experience.
  * Supervisory or project management experience.
  * Archival management software experience (e.g., Archon, Archivists' Toolkit, ArchivesSpace).
  * Reference experience in an academic, public, or corporate library.
  * Teaching experience in an academic environment.
  * Collection development experience.
