Edmonton Public Library - Chief Executive Officer EPL is passionate about
sharing and creating connections that help, grow, inspire and change.
For the last 102 years, the Edmonton Public Library (EPL)
has been much more than a place to borrow books.
In 2014, EPL was the first Canadian Library to be named
"Library of the Year" by Library Journal magazine, the highest library honour
of its kind.
It is a place that galvanizes communities, connects people
and expands minds.
From their initial start in a temporary space above a meat
shop and liquor store to their transformation of a streetcar into North
America's first bookmobile, EPL has always pushed the boundaries of what a
public library can be.

eans EPL continues to take risks, lead innovation, embrace change and
challenge standard library practices.
EPL is the first library system in North America to
systematically demonstrate a Community - Led philosophy by ins talling
Community Librarians and Out reach Workers a t library br anches.

the problems of homelessness and poverty and created a library environment
where marginalized populations can feel welcome, safe and have an opportunity

Based in Edmonton, Alberta and reporting to the Board of
Trustees, t he successful candidate will inspire an enduring culture of
creativity and innovation and strategically lead EPL's commitment to its
vision, mission and values in a manner that drive s the Library's continuing
success into the future.
The CEO will work closely with the Board and Leadership
team and will have oversight and accountability for EPL's approximate $49
million operational budget, 18 b r anches and 645 staff.
This role presents the opportunity to join a passionate,
successful and high - performing team that has an unwavering commitment to
demonstrating EPL's values: fun & fresh, innovative , incredible content,
knowledge - seeker, expert naviga tor and community activator.
An ideal candidate is an executive with ten (10) years of
progressively responsible experience in leading a complex organizational
environment (library or non - profit administration is an asset) and managing
large and complex c apital and operating budgets in a cost effective and
sensitive environment.
The individual will also have experience in governance and
working with Boards and managing external stakeholder relations as well as an
appreciation for the nuances of public sect or administration and political
environments.
A Master of Library Science Degree ( or equivalent post -
secondary degree through an accredited program and requisite library
experience ) is required.
A degree or diploma in Business Administration would be an
a sset.
