The IU Libraries is a national and international leader in the creation of
tools to support digital scholarship. The Scholars' Commons' (SC) services and
space have been designed to reinforce and extend the IU Libraries' great
strength in the area of digital scholarship, to bring together digital tools
and methods with traditional scholarly inquiry. The Scholarly Technologies
Librarian will identify new areas of support and develop training for
librarians and staff who provide consultation and reference services in the
SC, as well as collaborating with colleagues to reach out to the campus
community. The Scholarly Technologies Librarian will maintain awareness and
expertise in such areas as digital tools for text analysis, authoring,
collaboration, topic modeling, personal research curation, and bibliographic
management. This position will also develop partnerships, services, and
programming focused on the increasingly complex research environment that
regularly crosses traditional academic subject boundaries. This position
requires continual education and training and an interest in research
methodology.
Responsibilities: provide digital scholarship training to librarians and
staff; develop librarian staff awareness and knowledge of digital scholarship
practices; sustain and improve library support for bibliographic management
tools; work closely with visualization equipment and tools on campus; develop
new and support existing campus partnerships with units supporting research;
work with subject librarian colleagues to reach out to faculty and students to
provide research digital technologies support.
Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or
equivalent education or experience or a graduate degree or equivalent
experience in an art, art history, or design field; strong public service
orientation; knowledge of, enthusiasm for, and experience in the application
of new technologies in the evolving academic information environment; ability
to meet the requirements of a tenure-track librarian position.
Preferred: Two or more years of experience in an academic/research library;
ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment;
experience in Digital Humanities or Digital Scholarship; knowledge and
understanding of key issues and trends that affect academic libraries and
higher education.
