Digital Archivist Resident Librarian

Working closely with Archives staff, the Digital Archivist Resident Librarian
supports acquisition of digital archives in all formats and provides knowledge
and expertise in refining policies and procedures for digital records in the
University Archives. The Resident Librarian participates in the creation of
standards, policies, procedures, and tools for processing, discovery, and
access to University Archives content held in the Library Digital Repository.
This position is contingent on the availability of funding.
Responsibilities
Archives and Manuscripts Collection Development
* Collaborates with other staff to survey, appraise, and ensure proper transfer of electronic files and records to the Archives
* With other Library staff, consults with University offices and Library donors on best practices for storage, maintenance, and description of electronic records and other digital objects
* Identifies new and existing campus publications in electronic form and identifies strategies for acquisition and preservation
* Works with archivists to identify online material produced by University units and members of the University community for acquisition through web archiving initiatives
Acquisitions and Management of Electronic Records
* Evaluates and makes recommendations for development, refinement and implementation of procedures and workflows for electronic record appraisal, accessioning, description, and management
* Researches, recommends, and implements policies, standards, and practices for electronic records and digital collections
* Identifies, evaluates, and recommends tools and resources for new digital collection initiatives
* Collaborates with Library staff to develop and implement discovery and access tools and workflows for born-digital materials
* Investigates digital forensics tools and develops policies and procedures for use during accessioning and processing of digital materials
* Collaborates with SCRC archivists to develop policies and procedures for identification of and controlled access to collections containing sensitive or restricted material
* Works with Library staff to develop policies and procedures for web archiving
* In collaboration with Archives staff, arranges visits to conduct on-site evaluation and review of digital records
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program, or PhD in history or related
field; minimum of two years' experience working in an academic or research
library; previous experience working with born-digital records; demonstrated
knowledge of systems for management of born-digital materials and skill in
using technologies and strategies for digital preservation, description,
discovery, and access to digital content; knowledge of ethical and legal
concerns affecting acquisition, management, and access to digital collections;
knowledge of archival theory and practice as demonstrated through experience
performing archival appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation;
knowledge of metadata standards relevant to the description and preservation
of digital materials; ability to conceptualize and manage large collections in
diverse formats; ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
