An exciting opportunity exists to participate in
transforming a medical history collection as acompanion to
the Mutter Museum. The transformed collection will be
integrated with the MutterMuseum in embracing 21st century
technologies and social patterns of information usage
toachieve new modes of discovery and scholarship within
medical humanities. The College ofPhysicians of
Philadelphia seeks a Digital Projects Librarian who is detail oriented
andknowledgeable about current trends and methodology in
digitization to be a core contributor tothis
transformation.

  
The Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia
(Birthplace ofAmerican MedicineSM) is one of the largest
medical history collections in the United States withover
325,000 volumes including monographs, journals, manuscripts, archives,
prints,photographs, pamphlets, and
incunabula. It was designated a historical library in 1996
torecognize its function as a repository for the history of
medicine.

  
**Responsibilities:** Reporting to the College Librarian, the Digital Projects Librarian will managea portfolio of digital library projects, providing the project management framework and technicalknow-how needed to complete projects successfully. The Digital Projects Librarian explores,recommends, and helps implement software tools and frameworks to support digital libraryactivities. S/he creates and maintains work procedure documentation, provides training and supportto the library staff involved with projects and services, and participates in the gathering and analysisof use data. Maintains in-depth knowledge of national standards and best practices in the realm ofmetadata and digitization. The librarian will participate in library-wide projects and activities and isexpected to be active professionally.  
  
**Requirements:** Candidates will have a graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution. Candidates should have a minimum of one year's experience indeveloping and managing digital assets, and creating metadata in support of digital imagelibraries and/or exhibitions. Candidates should have working knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML,JavaScript, PHP, Ruby, MySQL, Apache, and JRE (Java Runtime Environment). Candidatesshould have working knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards and schema, includingMARC, XML, EAD, DACS, LCSH and MeSH._ Experience with Dublin Core is essential. Experience using content management systems, such as Omeka, is essential. Experience usingAWS (Amazon Web Services), or some web/system administration experience is essential._Experience with Archives Space preferred. Experience supervising student interns, ability toperform copy cataloging and excellent project management skills are preferred.  
  
Salary is commensurate with experience plus excellent
benefits. This is a full-time,
regular,exempt position.

  
Candidates must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, be able to
walk up and downmultiple flights of stairs, and be able to
carry a 20 pound box for a minimum of 20 feet.
