APPLICATIONS ANALYST- JOURNEY (TIME-LIMITED POSITION)
Library & Information Technology
Working Title: Applications Analyst
Position Number: 20006704
Hiring Range: $64,000-$66,000
Closing Date: July 21, 2015
Position Description:
This two year, time-limited, grant-funded position will develop software and
support workflows as part of a grant to move from planning to operationalizing
large-scale preservation and access of audiovisual collections in the Southern
Folklife Collection (SFC).
The Southern Folklife Collection resides in the Wilson Library, home to
special collections at the University Libraries at UNC Chapel Hill. The SFC is
one of the nation's foremost archival resources for the study of American folk
music and popular culture. SFC holdings extensively document all forms of
southern musical and oral traditions across the entire spectrum of individual
and community expressive arts, as well as mainstream media production.
The Analyst will work with the Curator of the SFC, the Project Director/AV
Conservator, and other staff across the collection and the libraries. In
collaboration they will gather user stories and define requirements to create
a workflow management system to support the full lifecycle of AV collections,
from accessioning and digitization, to discovery, access, and preservation.
The Analyst will evaluate existing systems and, where appropriate, build new
systems that meet these needs. There will also be work to normalize and
migrate legacy systems and data.
The Applications Analyst works with stakeholders, codifies requirements,
prototypes, develops applications, documents code and workflow, and manages
development within a versioning system. Interface design will emphasize
usability and accessibility. Software created in support of this grant will be
open source.
New software development will happen within an existing and robust technology
environment that favors LAMP and includes several web frameworks and content
management systems.
