Digital Initiatives Librarian & Instructor | Assistant Professor,

Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution in the
suburban Columbus area, invites applications for a non-tenure track
position in the library. We are seeking a visionary librarian to advance
our digital initiatives, such as the Digital Commons@Otterbein

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Director, this librarian will
provides leadership, management and policy and planning activities for the
campus-wide digitization projects and digital initiatives. He/she will
work collaboratively to plan and implement best practices for the
collection development of scholarly works and for their preservation,
accessibility, usability and usage analysis within the determined system
architecture. This position will partner campus-wide in efforts related to
data management. He/She will have reference responsibilities, serve as a
library liaison to assigned departments and is responsible for teaching
library instruction sessions.
Qualifications: MLS/MLIS from ALA-accredited program required for the rank
of Assistant Professor: candidates seeking terminal degree (MLS/MLIS) will
be considered at the rank of Instructor. The successful candidate will
possess the following preferred experience; project management, data
analysis, academic library experience, online education, and a strong
awareness of scholarly communication and digital scholarship. Preferred
candidates will also have experience with; collection development, policy
making and implementation, campus and department liaising, digital
innovations, supervisory experience, classroom teaching experience, and

The Semantic Computing Group [1] at Bielefeld University has an opening for
a research position (PhD or postdoc) to work on developing new
methodologies to support open science, in particular the concept of
analytical reproducibility as well as quality assurance of scientific data.
The position is available in the context of the project CONQUAIRE
(Continuous quality control for research data to ensure reproducibility: an
institutional approach), which is funded by the German Science Foundation
(DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).
The project will require to develop and implement new methodologies for
managing research data with the goal to publish the data and analytical
scripts to maximize transparency and reproducibility of the results. The
goal will be to elicit requirements from different groups and disciplines
of our university (biology, psychology, sports science, linguistics,
economics, robotics, etc.) and develop a methodology and infrastructure
that meets the needs of these groups. The framework should be implemented
on top of an existing web-based Git repository manager (e.g. GitLab) and
include components for automatically checking and verifying the quality of
data. The position requires working in close cooper
ation with scientists from different disciplines as well as with Bielefeld
University Library.
The requirements of the position are the following:

language of the project will be English, knowledge of German is not
mandatory, but a plus.
The Semantic Computing group is part of the Cognitive Interaction
Technology Center of Excellence [5] that hosts over 250 researchers working
on intelligent systems in a highly interdisciplinary context.

Responsible for the technical design and implementation of a software as a
service (SaaS) hosting model for the [Avalon Media
System](http://avalonmediasystem.org) software system and for the technical
design and implementation of software installation and deployment
methodologies for locally-installed instances of Avalon.
Work will include technical evaluation of hosting options; design of a
model for deploying Avalon for multiple institutional users; development of
system monitoring tools to support problem alerts, usage reporting, and
billing; development of tools for rapid deployment of new Avalon instances;
integration of Avalon with various authentication and authorization
providers; and implementation of change management practices to ensure
robust service levels and uptime.
Works as part of the larger Avalon development team, which is distributed
between Indiana University and Northwestern University.

The Data Repository Outreach Specialist works with colleagues in the
Libraries, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and

**QUALIFICATIONS
Required:**

LODLAM Workshop Leaders Interest Form
We’re seeking volunteers to run workshops at a number of key conferences
throughout 2015-16 designed to teach the basics of Linked Open Data in
Libraries, Archives and Museums LODLAM. In doing so, we hope to strengthen
a growing community of practitioners willing and able to build upon shared
cultural heritage and scientific data. The expectation is that we can
assemble and share the workshop plans and content to enable more and more
people to host and teach them over time.
In particular, we’re looking for people to teach tools in 1.5 hr sessions
with real data that address the following 4 categories:
--Big picture view: Introduce the basic concepts of LODLAM integrating
examples of what people are already doing with it.
--Cleaning: Use Open Refine to clean and reconcile datasets to make them
more usable for the public.
--Publishing: Demonstrate ways that people can publish datasets in the
library/archive/museum space - from publishing CSV’s and posting datasets
in Github to rdf’izing in Open Refine or using triplestores.
--Reusing and Building: Teach SPARQL as well as open source tools used to
visualize single or multiple collections.

**Qualitative Data Repository (QDR)

The Qualitative Data Repository (QDR, www.qdr.org) curates, manages,
archives, and preserves digital data (and accompanying documentation)
generated through qualitative and multi-method research in the social
sciences. QDR also hosts the Methods Coordination Project (
https://qdr.syr.edu/mcp), a bibliographic resource covering a range of
data-collection techniques and analytic methods employed in the social
sciences.
We are looking for a repository developer to join a small, dedicated,
entrepreneurial team. This developer will be responsible for designing and
building front and back-end solutions to support QDR's mission, and will
play a leading role in developing and maintaining a new Fedora-based
repository.
The ability to work collaboratively and autonomously are essential.
**Position Title**
Repository Developer
**Responsibilities**
* Develop and administer a Fedora repository.
* Evaluate both existing and emerging repository software for future
development.
* Help ensure that the repository meets standards for trusted long-term
preservation.
* Lead integration of existing Drupal site and Islandora middleware with
Fedora repository.
* Provide maintenance, and support services for ongoing data curation.
* Provide input to and evaluate work done by third-party development
firms contracted by QDR.
* Provide quality assurance for active developments, execute test plans,
and resolve bugs and issues.
* Provide timely and thorough technical documentation and keep all
documentation current.
* Attend meetings and carry out other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications**
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, OR
demonstrated experience in software development / engineering.
* Able to manage and maintain a LAMP stack
* Proficiency with SQL, relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL).
* Proficiency with XML and various metadata standards; experience in XML
transformations preferred.
* Experience with digital repository architectures
* Proficiency using svc, git, and Github
* Proficiency in software testing
* Proficiency with using and developing with APIs
* Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with technical and
non-technical staff
* Ability to work effectively remotely
* Ability to produce quality documentation
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience with Fedora and other repository software, such as DSpace
and Eprints.
* Familiarity with best practices in digital preservation, and
information systems auditing
* Experience integrating repository software with Islandora, Hydra, and
Drupal
* Experience developing with JQuery or other Javascript libraries
* Experience with automated quality assurance software
* Familiarity with social science methods and digital research data
* Experience working in educational institutions
**Additional Parameters**
Short-term contract with possibility for long-term contract extension.
20 - 40 hours/week depending on candidate availability and evolving needs.
Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
Possibility of remote work; distributed team work environment
