Dear Kaile,
I've been watching this thread with interest, since it involves two systems
that Archivematica, an open-source digital preservation platform currently
connects to.
The use cases that we've been working with so far between Archivematica and
CONTENTdm/ArchivesSpace is that institutions would wish to upload access
copies (dissemination information packages, or DIPs in OAIS terms) from
Archivematica to one of these access systems. Because ArchivesSpace isn't a
repository for digital objects in and of itself, the access information
sent is actually metadata, with a back-end workflow to provide a link to
the actual digital objects. In the case of CONTENTdm, Archivematica can
create a tab delimited file for the purpose of making an explicit
connection between your preservation and access copies. You then use the
CONTENTdm Project Client to upload your digital objects and the tab file
from Archivematica.
We haven't made a public release of the integration with ArchivesSpace yet,
but in its first iteration it will be very similar to Archivists Toolkit,
as described here:
https://www.archivematica.org/en/docs/archivematica-1.4/user-manual/access/archivists-toolkit/#archivists-toolkit
The CONTENTdm integration is described here:
https://www.archivematica.org/en/docs/archivematica-1.4/user-manual/access/contentdm/#contentdm
There isn't currently a workflow that would connect Archivematica to both
ArchivesSpace and CONTENTdm simultaneously, but that's a really interesting
idea. If anyone is interested in pursuing that discussion further, I'd
encourage you to jump on the Archivematica user forum:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/archivematica
The idea behind involving Archivematica in this workflow is to add digital
preservation tasks to your digital object workflow. This may not be your
focus at the moment, but I hope this provides some helpful food for thought!
Cheers,
Sarah
