Description:

  * Assists the PINES System Administrator in managing the enterprise-class multiple-server Linux cluster and the Evergreen software instance that supports the PINES library automation system. Recommends new or modifies existing configurations to meet customer needs.
  * Executes technical tasks associated with system integration testing of operating systems, databases, system utilities, and hardware upgrades, as well as of new software and hardware technologies. Develops test plans. Ensures testing evaluates all possible impacts of the new technology on the current infrastructure.
  * Plans and implements major software upgrades and ensures that change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed. Closely tracks all changes to the production system in a version control or configuration management software tool.
  * Participates in Evergreen software development planning; analyzes requirements and designs systems. Recommends and creates action plans for systems development and/or integration. Serves as technical consultant for PINES staff regarding software functionality. Serves as technical liaison between GPLS, the PINES libraries, and the Evergreen ILS open source software development community.
  * Assists in the scheduling and performance of upgrades of databases, adding new structures or elements, taking into account system specific dependencies.
  * In coordination with the GPLS IT Team, develops and maintains the disaster recovery plans for the information technology (IT) operational environment. Executes technical tasks associated with backup and recovery activities.
  * Recommends server-side hardware and software based on load calculations and customer requirements.
  * Executes server-side hardware installation, modification, and troubleshooting.
  * Maintains system security procedures. Performs the installation of security software and maintains physical security of systems and servers.
  * Monitors system performance. Tunes operating system and applications to avoid performance issues.
  * Provides the highest level of technical expertise in the evaluation of new technologies and makes recommendations.
  * Writes software patches, utility scripts, and other software applications as required.
  * Facilitate problem determination and applies analytical or research techniques to isolate or verify problems, gauge severity, and establish priority. Provide problem reports to managers and customers. Posts solutions and suggestions on support Web pages and email discussions.
  * Maintains a 24/7 on-call status, as required.
  * Acts as a technical resource for the PINES Program Director and Assistant State Librarian.
  * Prepares regular technical briefings or updates for both internal and external use.
  * Mentors other personnel as needed.
  * Familiarizes self with library practices and needs.

Required Qualifications:

  
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  * Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with three-five years of related experience, and/or equivalent relevant technology experience required. Master of Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution preferred. Georgia Professional Librarian certification preferred.
  * Experience with administration of Linux, especially in clustered, enterprise-level, critical operations.
  * Experience with library automation systems and related technologies preferred.
  * Experience in a professional software development environment preferred.
  * Knowledge of system administration for an integrated library system (ILS).
  * Experience with shell scripting, Perl, and SQL.
  * Knowledge of public library operations preferred.
