50% - Coordinates and manages the development and implementation of metadata
strategies that support the discovery and management of the Libraries' digital
context, such as research data, digital scholarship, born-digital archives,
digitized content, and digital humanities projects. Leads the selection and
development of relevant metadata standards, ontologies, policies, procedures,
and workflows for digital resources. Provides expertise on metadata standards
and practices.
25% - Engages in authority control processes to provide intellectual control
over the application of personal names, corporate names, and place names as
components of the metadata process.
15% - Works to fulfill tenure and promotion requirements.
10% - Participates in outreach opportunities; works with the Data Management
librarian and the Scholarly Communications librarian to address topics such as
data curation and scholarly communications to audiences within and outside of
the Libraries. Provides leadership and training for staff in Cataloging who
are responsible for the creation and management of metadata.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited master's degree program. Knowledge and
experience using relevant metadata standards used in libraries and in
scholarly publishing; knowledge of current and emerging trends, and practices
related to linked data, semantic web and RDF; also, MARC, RDA, AACR2;
demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, organize and lead projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with tools for managing digital assets or repository software such
as ContentDM, DSpace and Fedora; experience using scripting languages such as
Java, Perl, PHP; knowledge of and/or experience with metadata transforms; and,
experience with OCLC and an integrated library system.
