The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for an innovative
and proactive digital archivist for our institutional repository and
University Archives programs.

  
The Digital Repositories Archivist works as part of a team to build the
University Libraries' growing digital repository programs that include the
University of Minnesota's institutional repository, the University Digital
Conservancy (UDC); the Data Repository for the University of Minnesota (DRUM)
as part of the Libraries' Data Management & Curation Initiative (DMCI); and
the digital records program of the University of Minnesota Archives within the
broader strategic effort of electronic records management in Archives &
Special Collections. The Digital Repositories Archivist participates in
designing, refining, and implementing workflows and procedures to improve
efficiency and quality in acquiring and accessioning electronic records,
provides digital curation services, promotes broad access to repository
resources, and contributes to the preservation of born-digital materials in
support of serving the mission of the University Libraries. The Digital
Repositories Archivist integrates technologies, processes, resources, and
people in order to sustain digital repository solutions. The Digital
Repositories Archivist is a professional expert in digital repositories and
digital records processing.

  
  
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  * Serves as primary contact for new users and reference services for the University of Minnesota's institutional repository, the University Digital Conservancy (UDC), and the Data Repository for the University of Minnesota (DRUM).
  * Designs and implements workflows to manage a wide variety of projects for ingest into the repositories.
  * Securely transfers born-digital institutional records requiring long-term preservation and meriting sustained access in the UDC or the University Archives.
  * Provides arrangement and description of born-digital materials.
  * Manages web archiving program of the UDC/University Archives; Leverages web archiving tools to identify and capture at-risk institutional content.
  * Represents institutional repository and electronic record processing services on departmental or Libraries-wide committees or groups.
  
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  * Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited library school or an advanced degree with relevant experience.
  * Experience related to digital repositories, digital preservation, and/or born-digital records processing.
  * Demonstrated understanding of professional standards and best practices for facilitating the appraisal, management, description, and preservation of born-digital records.
  * Facility with technology and demonstrated interest in learning new skills applicable to digital archives.
  * Experience in managing projects and workflow design.
  
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  * Experience with open source institutional repository systems (e.g., DSpace).
  * Experience conducting functional requirements analysis for software/system development.
  * Familiarity with digital processing and forensics tools (e.g., Droid, Data Accessioner, BitCurator).
  * Experience with web archiving tools and services.
  * Knowledge of HTML, web page design, and web directory structures.
  * Knowledge of Dublin Core, MODS, PREMIS, and other metadata standards.
  * Knowledge of relevant standards for archival description, including DACS, EAD, and EAC-CPF.
  * Familiarity with current copyright and rights management issues in a digital environment.
  * Knowledge of emerging trends in digital scholarship, including open access, scholarly publishing, and data curation.
  * Keen interest in problem-solving and analytical solutions.
  * Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  * Strong interpersonal skills including valuing diversity, negotiation, tact, and sensitivity.
  * Ability to work effectively both independently and in cooperation with colleagues in a service-oriented, collaborative environment.
