**Digital Media Service Manager**

**Job Summary: **Manages [Avalon Media System](http://www.avalonmediasystem.org)support and deployment at IU, including the Media Collections Online (MCO) service ([http://media.dlib.indiana.edu](http://media.dlib.indiana.edu/)) and custom branded Avalon instances for other units and clients at IU.
Works with collection holders and operational teams in the IU [Media
Digitization and Preservation Initiative](http://mdpi.iu.edu) (MDPI) to
develop and implement plans for ingest and presentation of MDPI collections in
MCO; works with other MCO users at IU to set up new collections; and assists
with ingest of content into Avalon, consulting on use of MCO by faculty and
staff at IU. Develops metadata guidelines and mapping rules; writes
documentation, develops and provides training sessions; and works with MDPI
collection holders and other MCO users at IU to define new functionality
needed for the service.
Serves as Co-Product Owner for the Avalon Media System software product
following the Scrum Agile software development framework, which includes
analyzing user needs from IU and other institutions implementing Avalon.
Writes and prioritizes software design specifications and user stories to
define system requirements; and works with the software development team to
help size and clarify specifications, stories, and requirements. Carries out
testing of software; and writes documentation. Increases the adoption of
Avalon by other institutions by presenting in webinars and at conferences and
maintaining communication with service manager counterparts at other
institutions.

**REQUIRED: **Bachelor's degree in computer science, informatics, information science or related field and three years working in an academic library, IT services, or other comparable environment, which may include experience working in reference services, user support, or systems analysis capacity.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated knowledge of digital audio and/or video formats; expertise in use
of digital audio and video editing and processing tools, such as FFmpeg,
MediaInfo, Wavelab, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere; and knowledge of audio
and video digitization tools and practices. Knowledge of Mac and Windows
computer operating systems and networking sufficient to understand and
implement good practices for file storage and perform basic troubleshooting
tasks; and expertise in hardware/software setup, maintenance, and
troubleshooting, and with multiple computer platforms including UNIX, Windows,
and Macintosh OS. Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of different
user populations and analyze user needs in order to document requirements for
a service or software product; and ability to design web pages using HTML,
CSS, and JavaScript.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, written and
verbal including a customer service orientation and ability to interact with a
wide variety of individuals and work effectively as part of a collaborative
team. Strong organizational, multitasking, and project management skills
including ability to manage complex technology-based projects comprised of
cross-functional team members including project planning, resource management,
scheduling, and quality assurance.
**Preferred:** Knowledge of and/or experience working with the following: software development projects; Scrum or other Agile development methodologies; digital repository and/or digital library systems; library metadata standards; analog and physical audiovisual media formats; developing documentation and/or training materials.
