The Dartmouth College Library seeks a innovative and collaborative individual
to join its Research & Instruction Services department in a newly created
position focused on data and visualization support within the
curriculum. Working as part of a team of subject liaisons
in support of teaching and research in the Social Sciences and the Humanities,
the Data and Visualization Librarian provides leadership and expertise in
developing library support related to the discovery, use, and management of
locally and externally available data tools in the social sciences. The
successful candidate will be knowledgeable in emerging trends, tools,
technologies, and practices supporting data and visualization in the social
sciences, and will demonstrate an understanding of liaison and collection
development activities to support the work of the College's Government
department and the Program in Quantitative Social Science (QSS).
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Head of Research &
Instruction Services, the Data & Visualization Librarian provides leadership
and expertise in the development and management of data and visualization
information resources and services. In collaboration with colleagues across
the Library, Research Computing, and other College centers, the Data and
Visualization Librarian collaborates to support teaching and learning in the
use of data and visualization tools. The successful candidate will provide
liaison support to the Government department and to the Program in
Quantitative Social Science.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated knowledge of primary
quantitative and visualization tools used in the social sciences. Experience
in or capacity for working with statistical software, most significantly R,
ggplot2, Stata. Experience using, teaching, and evaluating data visualization
software such as Tableau, GIS, and D3.js. Strong research
skills in the humanities and social sciences including demonstrated experience
in and enthusiasm for instruction, both one-on-one and in the classroom.
RANK AND SALARY: The position is part of the Dartmouth College Library
Classification System of Professional Ranks. Salary is commensurate with
experience and qualifications. Full benefits package including 22 vacation
